CHAMPAIGN —Two simple questions while watching Illinois volleyball provide fairly clear indicators on just how the Illini are playing.

Like how much ground does Jordyn Poulter have to cover to set? And how active and effective are middle blockers Ali Bastianelli and Ashlyn Fleming in the attack.

Illini volleyball staying ahead of the curve

CHAMPAIGN — Chris Tamas built his schedule with a specific purpose in mind this season.

The Illinois volleyball coach wanted to game the RPI by constructing the most difficult schedule he could.

The Illini, of course, had to win more than they lost up against that schedule. Attempting to manipulate the RPI is one thing. Actually doing it is another.

CHAMPAIGN — By now, Illinois volleyball should be used to playing five-set matches against Michigan.

Friday night's Big Ten tilt between the two Big Ten foes was the third straight five-set match.

Poulter hits another gear as quarterback of Illini attack

CHAMPAIGN — Jordyn Poulter's summer was a successful one. The Illinois senior setter was the only collegiate athlete on the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the Pan-American Cup, and she helped lead that volleyball team chock full of former Big Ten standouts to a gold medal.

Poulter's summer was also an uncomfortable one. In a good way.
