Big Ten honors Penn again

Big Ten honors Penn again

For the second time in as many weeks, Karisma Penn is the Big Ten Player of the Week in women's basketball. The Illinois senior center was honored Monday after averaging 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games while shooting 60 percent from the field.

Penn scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Sunday to lead Illinois to a 79-73 victory against Ohio State, which ended the Buckeyes' 31-game home winning streak. The Shaker Heights, Ohio, native also set a school single-game record for free throws with 16 in 17 attempts.

Four days earlier, Penn had 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals in a 67-66 overtime loss to No. 14 Purdue at the Assembly Hall.

The Big Ten weekly award was the sixth of her career, matching the most in UI program history. Jenna Smith also was a six-time Big Ten Player of the Week, receiving the honor three times apiece during the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons.

I would not be surprised to see KP get Player of the Week a few more times before the season ends. Would love to see a couple others get named too!
