Women draw Georgia Tech for Challenge

Sarah Hartwell will see some familiar faces when the Illinois women’s basketball team visits Georgia Tech next season for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Illini and Yellow Jackets are scheduled to meet on Dec. 4 in Atlanta. Time and television information will be announced later.

Hartwell began her college career at Georgia Tech before transferring to the UI following the 2011-12 season. The 5-foot-10 sophomore guard, who sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules, has three years of eligibility remaining and is expected to vie for a spot in the Illini starting lineup in 2013-14.

Hartwell appeared in 10 games for the Yellow Jackets as a freshman, playing a total of 38 minutes.

Illinois and Georgia Tech will be meeting for the first time in the Challenge and the second time ever. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Illini 70-60 in the 1995 Comfort Inn Downtown Classic at Atlanta.

lllinois is 3-3 all time in the Challenge, which is tied for the third-best record among Big Ten teams. In last season’s Challenge, the Illini defeated Wake Forest 95-82 at home.
