Penn, GodBold sign pro contracts
CHAMPAIGN — The basketball careers of Karisma Penn and Adrienne GodBold won’t end at Illinois.
The two former Illini will play professionally after Penn signed with Umbertide in Italy’s Serie A1, which is the top women’s professional league in the country, and GodBold signed with the Mayaguez Indians in the BSNF, Puerto Rico’s top league.
Penn, who finished second in Illinois history in rebounds (1,043) and fourth in points (1,965), will play with Umbertide from October through March.
The playoffs run through April.
GodBold, who saw her scoring increase from 8 points per game to 15.9 this season while earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year accolades, will have a bit shorter season.
The Puerto Rican league starts play in late August and goes through October.
