FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Illinois women’s basketball team will face 2013 NCAA tournament qualifier North Carolina and two other teams in November at the Cancun Challenge Tournaments in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Tournament officials this week announced the fields and pairings for the Thanksgiving weekend event, which includes eight teams and 12 games.

The Illini, coming off a 19-14 season and a quarterfinal appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, will compete in the four-team Riviera Tournament.

Illinois opens against Arizona State, which finished 13-18 last season, at noon on Thursday, Nov. 28. The Illini will face Arkansas State (15-15) at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Illinois concludes the tournament at noon on Nov. 30 against the Tar Heels (29-7), who tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
