Storm claims boys' sectional title

ST. JOSEPH — The Salt Fork boys' track and field team handily claimed the Class 1A St. Joseph-Ogden sectional title on Friday, boasting six sectional titles and three runner-up finishes to knock off 2017 winner Warrensburg-Latham.

Storm sophomore Payton Taylor was a double champion in field events with top marks in the shot put (47 feet) and discus (141 feet, 9 inches), while juniors Caine Wilson (110-meter high hurdles), Dawson Rogers (800) and Max Branigin (200) each also won titles.

The Storm also claimed a title in the 3,200 relay, which Rogers anchored to a winning time of 8 minutes, 19.14 seconds.

Host St. Joseph-Ogden finished third behind Warrensville-Latham with first-place finishes from seniors Riley Baker (300 hurdles) and Braden Pridemore (1,600).

Maroons fall in regional final. After a stunning win over Urbana to reach a Class 2A regional title match, Champaign Central girls' soccer team saw its season end Friday night with a 7-0 loss to host Normal West. The Maroons (11-9) fell to the Wildcats (17-5-3) for the second time this season, counting a 7-0 loss on May 3.
