Thursday's prep highlights: GCMS boys set school record

In boys' golf

At Findlay. Villa Grove/Heritage edged Okaw Valley by five strokes, posting a team score of 198 at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Medalist honors went to the Timberwolves' Case Crawford, who carded a 40, while the Blue Devils produced the two next-best scores with Jackson Vandeventer's 43 and Sam Reno's 45.

At Gibson City. Several career lows for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley golfers turned into a school-record team performance, as the Falcons carded 154 over Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's 191 to improve to 5-0 on the year. A third straight day of success for senior Connor Birky ended with a career-low 2-under 34. Other personal lows included 39s from both senior Matt Hunt and sophomore Braden Roesch, a 42 from freshman Connor Engle in his varsity debut and a 43 from junior Bryce Boundy. Junior Kevin Clapp and sophomore Isaiah Lusk each carded 41s to lead the Blue Devils.

At Lincoln. Tri-Valley led three other area teams with a fifth-place finish in the par-71 Lincoln Scramble at the Lincoln Elks Country Club, finishing with a team score of 63 and one stroke ahead of eighth place Champaign Central. Clinton took 16th, while Urbana finished 20th.

At Moweaqua. Warriors sophomore Matt Erickson garnered medalist honors with a match-best 43, but Tuscola finished 15 strokes behind host Meridian, which finished with a team result of 234 to win its first match of the season. The Hawks' Kyle Farmer was also a medalist with a team-best 45.

At Saybrook. A five stack of Iroquois West golfers complied a team score of 216 at Indian Springs Golf Course, contending in a field with three Ridgeview golfers and two from Flannagan. While Ryan Tilstra and Ivan Munoz each carded 50 to pace the Raiders, Ridgeview senior Justice Boyd fired the best round at 47. Fellow Mustangs senior Allan Kindred was second best with a 49.

At Watseka. Junior Lukas Ball is having himself a week after a second straight day of medalists honors, carding a nine-hole 36 to pace Watseka to a dual-match victory over St. Anne at home. The Warriors, who improved to 6-0 on the season, posted a team score of 168.Brooks Schoon shot 43 to lead the Cardinals.

In girls' golf

At Moweaqua. Junior Claire Ring fired a team-low 43 to lead three Tuscola golfers at Moweaqua Golf Course. Whitney Root shot 61, and Lainey Bante fired a 62.
