1. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (1): In a strange twist, the Falcons are moving down to Class 1A after winning a 2A state championship last year. Mike Allen's still-loaded team has a chance to repeat.

2. Tuscola (2): Coach Andy Romine's club earned the No. 2 spot in the Associated Press' preseason Class 1A top 10 — just ahead of No. 3 GCMS. Could they meet in the playoffs?

3. Monticello (4): Led by Braden Snyder at quarterback, coach Cully Welter's program landed 10th in the AP's preseason Class 3A poll and maintains its usual high expectations.

4. Danville (6): In Year 2 leading the Vikings, coach Marcus Forrest is hoping for more of the same with results. Danville has posted an 8-3 record each of the last two campaigns.

5. Mahomet-Seymour (10): Coach Keith Pogue's Bulldogs are coming off some average seasons, and while their numbers are down in 2018, they have some athletes who can lead a resurgence.

6. Unity (5): Coach Scott Hamilton is hopeful his 25th season helming the Rockets, like all the others, produces a playoff berth. His first state title also would be a nice touch.

7. St. Joseph-Ogden (NR): Last year marked the first time since 1990 the Spartans were not part of the IHSA postseason. Coach Shawn Skinner's outfit is aiming to put that bad taste in the past.

8. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin (8): With Caleb Lahey healthy after tearing his ACL last season, coach Mark Dodd's Blue Devils seem poised to be a legitimate threat in the Vermilion Valley Conference.

9. Westville (3): Despite a boatload of seniors moving on from the Tigers, coach Guy Goodlove's bunch is aware of the longtime boss' expectations and should remain a contender.

10. Fisher (NR): Coach Jake Palmer's Bunnies have big aspirations this year and feel they might be overlooked in the Heart of Illinois Conference. Opponents have been warned.
