N-G volleyball Top 10: Sept. 10, 2018

A strong showing by St. Thomas More last week has the defending Class 2A state champions still atop our rankings. But preps coordinator COLIN LIKAS had to make several swaps after a competitive few days among the reigning teams:

1. St. Thomas More, 11-0 (1)

Kayla Brandon and the Sabers have lost just one set thus far. They'll get pushed by Watseka in a Tuesday home bout.

2. Champaign Central, 16-3 (6)

Alexis Aragon and the Maroons have worked out some early-season kinks and are winners of seven straight tilts.

3. St. Joseph-Ogden, 10-2 (2)

For Payton Vallee and the Spartans, both defeats have come to Central. SJ-O visits PBL and Danville this week.

4. Unity, 15-1 (5)

Katie Kaiser and the Rockets have dropped one set in their last eight matches, all wins. They visit Argenta-Oreana next.

5. Cissna Park, 6-3 (3)

Audrey Kaeb and the Timberwolves host Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and Paxton-Buckley-Loda this week.

6. Oakwood, 9-6 (4)

Paiton Frerichs and the Comets experienced a tough run in the Bulldog Invitational at Mahomet, posting a 1-4 mark.

7. Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 7-2 (7)

Makayla Klann and the Panthers rebounded from a loss to STM by taking down Clifton Central two nights later.

8. Blue Ridge, 13-3 (9)

Brianna Wallace and the Knights notched a 3-2 ledger in the Decatur Lutheran Invitational, host a tourney this week.

9. Cerro Gordo, 12-3 (8)

Sydney Walker and the Broncos also went 3-2 in the Decatur Lutheran Invite. Central A&M comes to town today.

10. Watseka, 8-4 (10)

Just one match last week for Mallory Drake and the Warriors, who won and face South Newton (Ind.) today.
