Prep coordinator Colin Likas breaks down the final rankings for area teams in 2018:


1. St. Thomas More, 37-5 (2)

Sabers couldn't repeat as state champions in Class 2A, but still walked away with a third-place plaque.

2. Champaign Central, 28-9 (3)

Maroons had plenty of potential but couldn't get on track in postseason; boast two victories over SJ-O.

3. St. Joseph-Ogden, 30-4 (1)

Spartans were overwhelmed by STM in a sectional final, though it was SJ-O's only loss to a Class 2A foe.

4. Blue Ridge, 32-7 (5)

Halloween treated Knights poorly when they fell to Flanagan-Cornell in thrilling Class 1A sectional final.

5. Cissna Park, 26-9-2 (4)

Timberwolves met a similar fate as Blue Ridge, dropping a sectional semifinal bout to Flanagan-Cornell.

6. Tri-County, 23-5 (7)

Titans ran roughshod until butting heads with Teutopolis in a Class 2A regional championship match.

7. Unity, 28-9 (8)

Rockets faced talented slate of foes and nearly beat Champaign Central in a Class 3A regional title tilt.

8. Armstrong-Potomac, 20-15 (6)

Trojans found stride in the playoffs, but it wasn't enough to top Blue Ridge in a Class 1A sectional semifinal.

9. Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 25-10 (9)

Panthers staved off 10th loss before losing to El Paso-Gridley in Class 2A regional championship match.

10. Prairie Central, 22-14 (10)

Hawks experienced a rough ending, but still fared well in the rugged Illini Prairie Conference.
