Thursday's prep highlights: Hood, Bunnies hop past Knights

In boys' basketball

Taylorville 60, Mahomet-Seymour 46. Mahomet-Seymour's Cole Lener scored a team-high 14 points, but the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1) fell in Apollo Conference action.

In girls' basketball

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 54, Milford 33. Emily Meidel's game-high 18 points was only part of BHRA's dominant Vermilion Valley Conference victory against Milford. Sierra Bryant added 15 points for the Blue Devils (9-1, 2-1), who pulled away by halftime for the win. Emma Morts had 13 points to lead the Bearcats (3-4, 1-2).

Fisher 37, Blue Ridge 21. Fisher put the game out of reach allowing just nine points in the second half. Sydney Hood hit two three-pointers and led Fisher (2-6) with 16 points, while Jenna Mozingo had six points for Blue Ridge (3-8).

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 45, LeRoy 30. GCMS senior forward Claire Retherford scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Falcons (6-3, 3-1) built a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Layna Spratt paced LeRoy (2-6, 1-3) with 10 points in the Heart of Illinois Conference showdown.

Oakwood 67, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 13. Oakwood left no doubt about its VVC win against G-RF. Katelyn Young outscored the Buffaloes by herself with a game-high 25 points in just three quarters. Kylie Neuman added 15 points for the Comets (8-3, 3-0). Sophia Ashby finished with five points for G-RF (0-10, 0-3).

Ridgeview 45, El Paso-Gridley 40. Ridgeview fended off a fourth-quarter rally to top El Paso-Gridley in HOIC action. Mya Tinsley finished with a game-high 20 points to go with six rebounds for the Mustangs (7-1, 3-0).

Schlarman 75, Hoopeston Area 14. Anaya Peoples outscored Hoopeston Area by herself and the Hilltoppers (8-1, 3-0) had four other players in double figures to take down the Cornjerkers (2-7, 0-3), who were led by Sadie Drayer's six points.

Sullivan 48, Warrensburg-Latham 18. Sullivan led throughout in its CIC win. Emily White hit four three-pointers and had 20 points to pace the Redskins (7-1, 2-0).

Teutopolis 72, St. Joseph-Ogden 39. Bree Trimble had 15 points, but SJ-O (9-1) lost its first game to last season's Class 2A third-place finishers.

Tuscola 54, Shelbyville 12. Tuscola had 18 assists on its 23 made shots in its Central Illinois Conference rout. Natalie Bates had 11 points and five assists for Tuscola (5-3, 1-1), while Marissa Russo chipped in 11 points.

Villa Grove/Heritage 58, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 47. VG/H's Aliya Holloman and ALAH's Marissa Herschberger dueled with 22 points apiece, but scoring depth was the key factor in the Blue Devils' win against the Knights (5-4). Kyleigh Block and Samantha Campbell added 14 points apiece for VG/H (8-2).

Watseka 53, Momence 19. Four three-pointers as part of an game-high 18 points by Mallory Drake helped Watseka to an easy Sangamon Valley Conference win. Magan Harris chipped in 12 points for the Warriors (9-1, 2-0), while Natalie Schroeder had 10.

Westville 53, Chrisman 30. A 23-point first quarter propeled Westville to a VVC win by the same margin against Chrisman. Senior guard Lexi Brinkley knocked down a pair of three-pointers and led the Cardinals (2-9, 0-3) with 19 points.

In wrestling

At Champaign. Centennial posted a pair of dual victories at home with a 63-6 takedown of Argenta-Oreana and a 39-34 win against Mattoon. Cameron McMullen (113 pounds), Cameron Nesbitt (160) and Dontaice Roberson (170) all went 2-0 on the night. Nesbitt and Roberson won all of their matches by pinfall.

At Fairbury. Prairie Central built a 28-point advantage against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher, including pinfall victories by Ethan Duke (145 pounds) and Logan Deacetis (160). The Falcons then won five straight matches to finish the night but it wasn't enough in a 38-35 Prairie Central victory. Michaela Dykes' pin at 106 pounds started the GCMS/Fisher rally.

At Monticello. LeRoy/Tri-Valley won its first three matches against Monticello — all by pinfall by Josh Sexton (106 pounds), Ethan Matlock (113) and Dawson Bird (120) — to build an early lead that proved crucial in its 45-34 victory.

At Rantoul. Rantoul/Paxton-Buckley-Loda fell behind early before rallying for a 45-33 dual win against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin/Armstrong-Potomac. Three straight wins by Rashon Allen (132 pounds, pin), Keddrick Terhune (138, major decision) and Peter McCusker (145, pin) gave the Eagles their lead.
