With regional action less than a month away, preps coordinator COLIN LIKAS takes a look at recent local grappling results and attempts to rate the area's best:

RANK, TEAM PREV. COMMENT

1. Prairie Central 1 Hawks hosted the Prairie Central Hawk Classic last weekend and won the event, but still face a daunting task this weekend in the form of the Illini Prairie Conference meet.

2. Mahomet-Seymour 2 Bulldogs were the lone local outfit at the Sycamore Invitational, collecting 14th place after falling in a dual to Sterling Newman. Next is Apollo Conference action at Lincoln.

3. Unity 4 Rockets are flying high despite not taking part in an event the previous weekend, still feeling positive vibes from Abe's Rumble. They'll host aforementioned IPC meet soon.

4. Clinton 3 Maroons were best of the area bunch at Princeton Tournament with a ninth-place display, get a good test this weekend when they host a quad meet that includes GCMS/Fisher.

5. Monticello 7 Sages rolled to 14th place at the Princeton Tournament, face Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin/Armstrong-Potomac and Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Westville this evening.

6. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher 5 Falcons were good enough for 15th position in the Princeton Tournament, face Clinton, Fort Zumwalt (Mo.) and Fort Zumwalt South (Mo.) in a road quadrangular this weekend.

7. Oakwood/Salt Fork 6 Comets kept things quiet in the previous weekend, are preparing for Vermilion Valley Conference wrestling against Hoopeston Area and Westville/Georgetown-RF on Tuesday.

8. LeRoy/Tri-Valley 8 Panthers landed in 16th place at the Princeton Tournament, will hit the mats next Thursday with a trip to Petersburg PORTA before hosting the Randy Bowman Invitational.

9. Centennial 9 Chargers secured a share of seventh place as only area club at the Jim Newbill Invitational, will join a handful of other locals at Mahomet's Marty Williams Invitational next.

10. St. Joseph-Ogden — Spartans jump into our ranks after defeating BHRAAP and Hoopeston Area in dual action last week, now will travel to rival Unity's base for the Illini Prairie Conference meet.
