Wednesday's prep highlights: Comets advance to Vermilion County championship

In girls' basketball

Vermilion County Tournament

Oakwood 48, Westville 18. Oakwood won its fifth consecutive game and advanced to its third straight Vermilion County Tournament title game with a convincing win against the Tigers at Palmer Arena in Danville. Katelyn Young scored a game-high 19 points to spark the Comets (19-5). Hunter Lange had a team-high eight points for Westville (13-10).

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 31, Salt Fork 25. BHRA fended off a fourth-quarter rally to clinch a spot in Friday's 8 p.m. title game against Oakwood. Emily Meidel and Hunter Edwards each had eight points for the Blue Devils (21-5). Mackenzie Russell (eight points) led the Storm (14-11), who will face Westville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the third-place game.

Armstrong-Potomac 46, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 17. Hope Hambleton drained five of A-P's 10 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points for the Trojans, who ended a two-game losing skid and will play Hoopeston Area at 5 p.m. on Friday in the fifth-place game. Maddie Buhr added seven points for A-P (11-14). Ashlee LaGrand led G-RF (0-20) with eight points.

SVC Tournament

Watseka 63, Clifton Central 27. Kennedy Bauer (19 points, eight rebounds) and Magan Harris (18 points) keyed the top-seeded Warriors (20-2) to a semifinal win. Watseka advanced to play Paxton-Buckley-Loda (13-10) at 7:30 p.m. today in the championship game in Gilman.

LOVC NW Tournament

Okaw Valley 46, Cerro Gordo/Bement 31. Ella Mann (nine points) and Riley Brandenburg (eight points) led CG/B (5-19).

LOVC SE Tournament

Tri-County 65, Martinsville 15.

Kiersten Price-Wilson scored a game-high 16 points and Bella Dudley added 12 points for the top-seeded Titans (18-4) during a semifinal win in Martinsville.

Villa Grove/Heritage 64, Oblong 32. The Blue Devils rolled to a spot in today's 8 p.m. title game against Tri-County behind a game-high 32 points from Aliya Holloman. Kyleigh Block chipped in 15 points for VG/H (16-5).


Charleston 68, St. Thomas More 13. Tatum DeVriese and NaKaya Hughes each had four points for visiting STM (4-14) in a nonconference loss.

Schlarman 80, Champaign Central 40.

Capria Brown scored a game-high 30 points and Anaya Peoples tossed in 22 points to lead the host Hilltoppers (19-2) to a nonconference win. Chanice Willis scored a team-high 16 points for Central (13-10).

In boys' swimming

At Bloomington. Champaign Central earned a 101-82 win against Bloomington, with the Maroons winning five events. Ryan Wierschem took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 52.94 seconds), while Justin To (200 individual medley, 2:16, 26), Mikey Hynds (diving, 241.25), Zach Plattner (100 freestyle, 55.66) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.21) also placed first.
