Shining sectional stars heading to state

WYATT HEIMANN, Mahomet-Seymour

After losing his quarterfinal match on Friday night at 170 pounds in Mahomet, the Bulldogs senior ensured his season wouldn't end before state by topping three opponents in 2A wrestlebacks to earn fourth place.

EZRA ELLIOTT, Hoopeston Area

The Cornjerkers senior isn't letting up, pinning his semifinal and championship round opponents in a combined 2 minutes, 20 seconds to remain unbeaten on the year en route to winning a 1A sectional title at 138 pounds in Carterville.

MASON AJSTER, Oakwood/Salt Fork

After being upset by Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's Jacob Akins in the regional, the Comets senior pinned both Monticello's Jack Spence and Akins to captured the 1A Carterville 160-pound championship.

TAVIUS HOSLEY, Unity

Only a freshman, the Rockets standout proved he could flourish now — and in the future. Hosley took home a 1A championship at 106 pounds in Carterville, winning two close matches Saturday as part of a strong day overall by Unity.

ANTHONY TURNER, Danville

The senior is the lone Viking who advanced to state, and he did so with guts in Mahomet. Overcoming a cold and a bloody nose, Turner edged Peter McCusker of Rantoul/PBL for the 2A championship at 145 pounds.
