Four stars from Friday's girls' state track and field meet

Preps coordinator Colin Likas offers up four area athletes who stood out Friday in Charleston:

TANAYA YOUNG

RANTOUL

The sophomore recorded the Class 2A preliminaries' top long jump (18 feet, 101 / 2 inches) and helped the Eagles' 400-meter relay to a finals spot.

PAYNE TURNEY

CLINTON

The junior was the only Class 2A athlete to go below 2 minutes, 20 seconds in the 800-meter run and added advancement in the 1,600 to her finals docket.

EMELIA NESS

MONTICELLO

The junior played a part in three first-place heat finishes in Class 2A prelims (100- and 300-meter hurdles, 800 relay) as well as a runner-up 400 relay.

DIAMONASIA TAYLOR

URBANA

The junior and reigning two-time Class 2A state high jump champ advanced in that and broke the Tigers' long jump record with a leap of 18 feet, 21 / 2 inches.
