Tuscola's Wienke fires no-hitter

TUSCOLA – John Wienke threw a no-hitter and struck out 14 Monday to lead Tuscola to a 13-0 prep baseball victory against Tri-County.

Wienke earned his third win of the year. The Warriors, riding an eight-game winning streak, got two home runs from Clayton Meyer (five RBI) and one blast from Wil Maxey in the Little Okaw Valley Conference game.

Rantoul 13, Unity 9. Joey Horn hit a three-run home run and pitched six innings to pick up the road win for the Eagles. Doug Spencer added two hits and four RBI for Rantoul, which won its seventh straight. Cole Craft homered for the Rockets.

Arcola 14, Villa Grove 13. Jamison Miller had two runs, three hits and three RBI for the host Purple Raiders, who scored two runs or more in each of the last six innings. Ed Leal (three hits, two runs), Daniel Fishel (three hits, three runs), Jake Rippey and Jon Jenkins all had two RBI for Arcola.

STM 4, Iroquois West 3. Tyler Schweighart gave up five hits and struck out seven for St. Thomas More, which scored six in the sixth to come from behind for the Sangamon Valley Conference win. Jeff Nogle, Joe Parkhill, Dan Murphy, Trent Richardson and Dylan Ray each had two hits for the Sabers.

Watseka 5, PBL 0. Brandon Moyer struck out 12 and allowed two hits to lead the Warriors to the home SVC win. Drew Watts hit a solo home run and drove in two runs for Watseka (13-6, 8-2).

Judah 11, Fisher 3. Lee Bergfield had two hits and struck out eight as Judah Christian used a 10-run second to secure the road win. Matthew Jarrett had three hits and Jason Peterson had two hits and two RBI for the Tribe.

Momence 5, CPCI 4. Toby Wall had three hits and Jeffrey Maurer struck out eight in six innings, but it wasn't enough as the Timberwolves lost an SVC game on the road.

LeRoy 3, Heyworth 1. Ryan Koerner struck out seven in throwing a five-hitter for the host Panthers. Brent Alexander and Brett Bruning each had two hits for LeRoy in the Heart of Illinois Conference game.

A-L 11, South Piatt 6. Ross Taylor had two hits and two RBI and Tim Wilson had three RBI to lead Arthur-Lovington in a home LOVC contest. Adam Carver picked up the win after throwing four innings of no-hit ball.

M-S 20, Bloomington 11. Jon McComb, Andrew Dallas and Nick Jachino each hit two home runs to pace a 20-hit attack for Mahomet-Seymour. Austin Moore hit a grand slam for the Bulldogs, who have 57 hits in their last four games. Neil Wright added three RBI for M-S (14-4-1).

SJ-O 15, Clifton Central 7. JC Ducey had a grand slam and Michael Cessna had three hits and two RBI as St. Joseph-Ogden scored five in the fifth and seven in the seventh on the road. Lukas Graves had two hits and two RBI for the Spartans in the SVC contest.

East Central 10, Cerro Gordo 5. Tyler Katterhenry (three RBI) and Ben Carroll hit home runs to lead the Panthers to an LOVC victory at Hume. Jamison Lowe added two hits and Wes Carnes had two RBI for the Panthers (18-3-1, 10-0).

Westville 12, Milford 5. Jordan Barney hit two home runs and drove in four while pitching all eight innings as visiting Westville beat Milford in a Vermilion Valley Conference game. With the game tied at five, the Tigers erupted for seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win. Aaron Johnson added four hits for Westville. Justin Garrelts had two home runs and five RBI for the Bearcats.

Salt Fork 19, G-RF/C 7. Chase Sanford (four RBI) and Morgan Learnard each homered as the Storm (13-1) used a 13-run third inning against visiting Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman in a VVC win.

Schlarman 14, A-P 4. Michael Kasper had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI as the host Hilltoppers improved to 16-7. Adam Muehl, Vinnie Miller and Jordan Spisok all had two hits and two RBI for Schlarman against Armstrong-Potomac in a nonconference game between VVC schools.

B-H 12, Hoopeston 7. Taylor Haynes had three hits and three RBI in host Bismarck-Henning's Vermilion Valley win. Evan Hendricks, Gabe Bergman, Tyson Elderts-Ajala and Quinton Fritz each added two hits for the Blue Devils.
