Milestone win Central earns 1,000th victory in program's history

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – Timmie Johnson had two hits as Champaign Central's baseball team earned the 1,000th victory in its history with a 5-4 win against West Mifflin (Pa.) on Wednesday.

"It's overwhelming," Central coach John Staab said. "There's a lot of rich tradition here. To be a part of it is pretty cool."

Doug Kyrouac and Clint Miller each drove in a run for the Maroons (3-2). Winning pitcher Kollin Marquardt (2-0) allowed one earned run in five innings. Mark Pataky earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

GCMS 11, Clifton Central 2. Ross Brucker (three RBI) and Alex Kemmer had three hits as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley cruised on the road.

Salt Fork 16, Paris 8. The visiting Storm pounded seven homers, including three in the first inning.

Mat Bowen hit two of the Storm's homers and drove in five. Joel Learnard had four hits.

Oakwood 12, Fisher 4. Alex Cundiff had a two-run homer and drove in three for the visiting Comets, who got three RBI from Brady Leeman and three hits from Casey Fletcher.

East Central 19, Westville 9. Travis Hawkins went 3 for 3 and knocked in three runs for host East Central, which scored 11 times in the first.

Tuscola 13, Schlarman 0. Tyler Clark had two hits and three RBI and tossed a one-hitter to pace the visiting Warriors.

Kurtis Kinyoun had two hits and drove in two runs. Matt Pflum added two hits.

Blue Ridge 5, Armstrong-Potomac 1. Trenton Weddle had two hits and Josh Lytel drove in a pair to power the host Knights.

Sullivan 13, South Piatt 1. Alex Wood slugged a grand slam and Tyler Frerichs homered and drove in five for the visiting Redskins.

In softball:

Tuscola 12, Central 1. Rachael Brewer, Rebecca Swaney and Molly Romine (two RBI) had two hits apiece to lead host Tuscola.

SJ-O 15, Westville 0. Andi Morgan (five RBI) and Hannah Bowen (three RBI) homered to pace the visiting Spartans.

Blue Ridge 12, Armstrong-Potomac 0. Staci Gardner fired a two-hitter and Jordan Wheeler had two RBI for host Blue Ridge.

GCMS 7, Clifton Central 1. Regan Romshek pitched a one-hitter in the road victory.

Oakwood 9, Fisher 5. Katie Lee scored four runs for the visiting Comets.
