Flessner, Martinez power Chargers win

ST. JOSEPH – Jake Flessner and Taylor Martinez each hit two-run homers to lead Centennial to a 7-2 nonconference baseball victory against St. Joseph-Ogden on Wednesday.

Don McDuffee, who picked up the win for the Chargers (3-1), added a pair of hits, as did Dylan Hast.

Lucas Gones hit a solo home run for the Spartans (4-7).

Mattoon 13, Mahomet-Seymour 3. Bob Schroeder went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the visiting Bulldogs, who improved to 4-1.

Cerro Gordo 12, Monticello 0. Drew Minton fired a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking one in Cerro Gordo's five-inning victory against the visiting Sages.

Minton, who improved to 2-1, also went 3 for 3 at the plate with a homer and three RBI for the Broncos.

Nash Ramage and Dalton DuPont contributed to the attack, collecting two hits apiece.

Mike Duff added two RBI and a homer for Cerro Gordo.

Tuscola 4, East Central 1. Auste Shelmadine homered and drew two walks for the host Warriors (4-4). Tyler Clark improved his record to 3-1, striking out eight in six innings.

Armstrong-Potomac 5, Westville 0. Jeff Creighton had two hits and Link Hambleton two RBI for the host Trojans (4-2).

Lee Spezia collected two hits for Westville (0-7).

Sullivan 9, Arthur-Lovington 2. Alex Wood had two hits and two RBI for the host Redskins (4-0).

Milford 12, Bismarck-Henning 6. Ryan Kunce went 3 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs and Jordan Scherf was a home run short of hitting for the cycle for the visiting Bearcats, who improved to 7-0.

Kyle Evans added three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI for Milford.

Luke Haynes and Brandon Smith drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Devils (2-4).

In softball:

Villa Grove 6, Urbana 3. Cami Renfrow drove in three runs and Abby Rogers had two hits for the host Blue Devils, who notched their first win of the season (1-5). Sheena McNeil and Jasmine White had two hits for the Tigers (0-2).

Westville 10, Armstrong-Potomac 0. Alex Hannan pitched a two-hitter and Brittany Martin added two hits and three RBI for the host Tigers (3-1) in a five-inning game.

Charleston 1, Rantoul 0. Hanna Mennenga allowed one hit and struck out 12 but was the hard-luck loser. The host Eagles (2-3) managed one hit.

Clinton 5, Fisher 0. Shelbi Rentmeister struck out nine and threw a three-hitter for the visiting Maroons, who got two hits, two runs and an RBI from Jamie Rockhold. Rachel Kelley had two hits and stole three bases for the Bunnies.

St. Joseph-Ogden 12, Heritage 2. Stephanie Canfield (four steals), Hannah Bowen (three RBI) and Shelby Immke (two RBI) all recorded two hits for the host Spartans (4-0). Heritage got two hits from Hillary Smith.

Sullivan 1, Okaw Valley 0. Natalie Craig's first-inning RBI single, plating leadoff hitter Caitlyn Cordell (two hits, two RBI) proved to be all the offense the host Redskins needed against the Timberwolves.

Monticello 6, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 1. Ali Moss went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for the host Sages (8-1). Krysten Wileaver had three hits, including a double and a triple, and winning pitcher Jenna Harshbarger fanned nine for Monticello (7-1). Ally Edwards doubled and tripled for the Panthers.

Salt Fork 9, Oakwood 0. Jessica Scrowmatt threw a no-hitter, striking out five, and Maddy Stutsman had three hits and drove in three runs for the host Storm (4-1). Megan McCord (two hits, two RBI) and Megan Leverenz (three hits, RBI) chipped in offensively.

Milford 13, Bismarck-Henning 6. Ashlen Portwood drove in four runs, Colleen Quigley drove in three and Anna Lucht plated two for the host Bearcats (3-3). Hannah Ohl drove in two runs for the Blue Devils.

Schlarman 14, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 0. The host Hilltoppers put together a nine-run first inning in support for Mariah Skaggs, who threw a three-hit shutout. Lohgan Bryant had three hits and four RBI to lead the offensive attack and Casey Cromwell added two hits and three RBI.

In girls' soccer:

Champaign Central 2, Springfield 1. Kimberly Vega and Mia Gilliam each scored off assists from Amanda Greco for the host Maroons (2-0). Jordan Slade picked up the win in goal, stopping 10 shots.

Urbana 2, Mattoon 0. Kate Russell scored a first-half goal and assisted on Zoe Keller's second-half tally for the visiting Tigers. Aubrey Morse stopped five shots for Urbana (1-0), which got an assist from Mary Kimball.
