M-S' Veitch saves day

MAHOMET – Hillary Veitch recorded her fourth shutout of the season and Kara Breedlove scored three goals to lift Mahomet-Seymour to an 8-0 Corn Belt Conference girls' soccer victory against Olympia on Thursday.

Alyssa Drollinger added two goals for Mahomet-Seymour (7-1-0).

Monticello 7, Eisenhower 0. Brittney Gallivan scored three goals and had two assists for the host Sages.

Hannah Smith added a goal and an assist for Monticello (4-5-1), which got one save from Colleen Donohue.

Uni High 7, Meridian 0. Erika Belmont scored three goals and Michelle Wong had two goals and two assists for Urbana Uni High at Macon. Emma Coverdill had two assists, and Rachel Skoza had the shutout.

Normal West 5, Centennial 0. Micaela McLennand made 10 saves for the host Chargers.

In softball:

Watseka 20, Iroquois West 2. Lauren Krumwiede (two RBI), Andrea Cook (four RBI) and Dakota Bohlman (three RBI) each had four hits for the visiting Warriors. Ashley Morris was 2 for 3 in the loss.

Prairie Central 7, Pontiac 5. Paige Heiser had two hits and an RBI for the visiting Hawks.

Schlarman 12, Milford 2. Mariah Skaggs pitched a complete game and went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the host Hilltoppers. Lynzie Fields had four RBI, and Randi Cookus had three RBI.

SJ-O 8-3, Clifton Central 4-0. St. Joseph-Ogden's Brooke Earl pitched a perfect game in the nightcap, getting support from Emily Harms (five hits, five RBI). In the opener, Jenna Slifer had 12 strikeouts.

St. Thomas More 5-1, PBL 3-3. Sierra Myerscough was 4 for 5 with two RBI on the day for the Sabers, who got a complete-game four-hitter from Becca Millage in the opener at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.

Seeger (Ind.) 10, Oakwood 8. Katie Lee and Amanda Kent each had two hits for the host Comets.

In baseball:

Judah Christian 9, B-H 2. Austin Hamilton and Andrew Fouts (three RBI) each had three hits for the visiting Tribe, which got two hits and four RBI from Gabe Chaille.

PBL 9, SJ-O 3. Jacob Bender was 3 for 4 with three RBI and Austin Wood, Jamie LeRoy, Connor Allen and Dylan Overstreet each added two hits for host Paxton-Buckley-Loda, which moved to 7-0 in Sangamon Valley Conference play.

Ben Rogel had two hits for St. Joseph-Ogden.

B-H 3, Hoopeston Area 2. Todd Ellis pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts for visiting Bismarck-Henning.

St. Thomas More 2, Watseka 0. Tyler Schweighart pitched a four-hitter – striking out five – for the host Sabers.

BCC 7, Mahomet-Seymour 1. Jason Zeigler had two hits for the host Bulldogs.

Iroquois West 11, CPCI 1. Zach Villwock pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts, helping his cause with two RBI. Luke Fink added three RBI.

Oakwood 12, Seeger (Ind.) 0. Alex Cundiff had four RBI and also pitched a complete-game one-hitter for the host Comets.

Pontiac 4, Prairie Central 0. Jordan Pilgrim had two hits for the host Hawks.

Olympia 8, Rantoul 1. James Monroe drove in the host Eagles' run.

In boys' tennis:

Central 6, Danville 3. Patrick Wampler won in singles and doubles for the Maroons.

In track:

A-O 96, Sangamon Valley 51. Haley Briggs and Taylor Brunner each won three events for the Bombers.

At Prairie Central. Andrew Brewer won the 200 and 300 hurdles as Mahomet-Seymour won a three-team meet.

At Watseka. Marcel Maiden and John Kidwell each won two events as Watseka won a six-team boys' meet. Watseka also won the girls' meet.
