Palazzolo powers Sabers

WATSEKA – Andrea Palazzolo drove in three runs as St. Thomas More beat Watseka 10-2 in a Sangamon Valley Conference softball game Tuesday.

Brittany Einck and Alli Cole had three hits apiece for the Sabers (12-11, 4-4 SVC). Pitcher Becca Millage struck out 12. Watseka got three hits from Erin Cowan.

Schlarman 7, Hoopeston Area 6. Randi Cookus, Lynzie Fields and Darrian Chrzanoski had two hits apiece for visiting Schlarman in a Vermilion Valley Conference showdown.

The Hilltoppers (15-3-1) remained unbeaten in the VVC at 8-0.

Valerie Austin paced the Cornjerkers (13-2, 5-1) with two hits and three RBI.

Blue Ridge 9, Heyworth 1. Jordan Wheeler's two-run double sparked a nine-run uprising in the 10th inning for the visiting Knights.

Marcie Crawford had three hits. Wheeler also scattered five hits and struck out 12.

North Vermillion (Ind.) 5, Salt Fork 4. Mallory Weber and Megan McCord each had two hits and an RBI for the host Storm (11-8).

In baseball:

Normal U-High 7, Rantoul 3. Cody Flowers had a triple and Keegan Stewart knocked in a run for the host Eagles (8-10, 1-4 Corn Belt).

Bloomington Central Catholic 6, Prairie Central 4. Mitch McDonald and Jordan Pilgrim had two hits apiece in the Hawks' (7-11, 2-3 Corn Belt) home contest.

East Central 4-2, Sangamon Valley 3-1. Spencer Lowe had two hits to lead host East Central (13-7-1, 10-0 Little Okaw Valley) to a second-game victory.

Rich Little had two hits and Devon Biggs added two RBI in the opener.

Fieldcrest 1, LeRoy 0. Host Fieldcrest scratched across the only run against LeRoy starter John Fike in the second.

In soccer:

Centennial 10, Eisenhower 0. Nora Al-Qadi scored twice as Centennial (7-1-5) rolled on the road. Grace Ayodele added a goal and two assists.

Normal West 2, Central 0. Keeper Sarah Kresca made five saves for the host Maroons (5-8, 1-5 Big 12 Conference).

First Baptist 2, Normal Calvary Baptist 2. Jessica Greer and Ashley Greazer scored for visiting Danville First Baptist.

In girls' track & field:

At Arthur. Villa Grove's Lauren Henderson swept the three sprint races in a three-team meet.

Kim Fortney won the shot put and the discus for Arcola. Katie Davis captured the long jump and triple jump for meet winner Arthur.

At Rantoul. Tajia Cummins (both hurdles events), Dani Bunch (shot put, discus) and Jessica Burke (200, long jump) were double winners for Mahomet-Seymour, which won a four-team meet.

At Clinton. Emilee Seevers (high jump), Mackenzie Westwater (pole vault) and Allissa Burgard (200) were individual winners for Monticello, which defeated five opponents.

In boys' track & field:

At Gibson City. Trevor Unzicker captured the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash to lead Fisher, which won the 13-team Falcon Invitational.

Schlarman's Solomon Crenshaw won the 100, 200 and long jump. St. Thomas More's Brandon Noe took the discus and the shot put.

At Clinton. Matt Foran won the high jump and Will Foran took the shot put as Monticello won the five-team meet.

At Arthur. Bobby Aikman won the 100, 200 and high jump to lead Arthur.

In tennis:

Springfield 9, Central 0. Host Spring- field swept all nine matches in straight sets.
