Russell powers Urbana
MATTOON – Kate Russell had a goal and three assists as top-seeded Urbana beat Mount Zion 5-1 in a Class 2A girls' soccer regional match Tuesday.
Zoe Keller and Melinda Mendoza each scored two goals for the Tigers, who take on Charleston in Friday's regional title match.
M-S 8, Charleston 7. Alex Smith had a two-run homer for host Mahomet-Seymour. Smith finished with three hits for the Bulldogs (15-9).
Urbana 15, Central 11. Cody Randolph had four hits to lead a 15-hit attack for the host Tigers.
Laquan Grein-Wilkerson and Ben King added three hits for Urbana.
Timmie Johnson paced the Maroons with three hits.
Mattoon 12, Centennial 9. Don McDuffee had three hits for the host Chargers (15-12-1, 4-6 Big 12). Tim Weaver, Jake Flessner and Justin Johnson added two hits apiece.
Danville 9, Rantoul 3. Ryne Watson had three hits and two RBI to lead the host Vikings.
Chadd Snyder, Logan Vance and Tyler Burton added two hits for the Vikings (13-10-3). Winning pitcher Dennis Forrest scattered six hits and drove in two runs.
Devin Smith went 3 for 3 for the Eagles.
G-RF/Chrisman 13, Hoopeston Area 6. Korie Vire had two hits and two RBI to spark the visiting Buffaloes (22-10).
Blue Ridge 4, Fieldcrest 3. Ethan Atwell singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning for the host Knights.
GCMS 11, Grant Park 1. Regan Romshek had three hits, including a homer, and was the winning pitcher in the Class 1A regional game at Onarga.
Sidney Overman added three hits and Mara Filicsky collected two hits and three RBI.
Urbana 6, Central 5. Senior Sheena McNeil drove in Jasmine White in the bottom of the eighth on the Tigers' Senior Day.
Shannon Fitzgerald had two hits and three RBI. White chipped in two hits.
Tuscola 6, Villa Grove 0. Samantha Ledbetter had a two-run homer and Rebecca Swaney drove in three runs for the Warriors in the Class 1A Tuscola Regional.
Charleston 8, Danville 2. Mackenzie Stevenson took the loss for the visiting Vikings.
Hoopeston 2, Bismarck-Henning 0. Alexis Grove had two hits and Kelsey Sollars and Valerie Austin each drove in a run as the Cornjerkers (21-4) advanced to the title game of the Class 2A Watseka Regional.
Elyse Lippert had two hits for the Blue Devils (13-13).
Westville 9, St. Thomas More 0. Kayla Bryant's two hits sparked the Tigers (12-9).
Heathre Depratt had two steals for the Tigers in the St. Joseph-Ogden Regional game.
St. Joseph-Ogden 22, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 1. The host Spartans (28-2) scored 10 times in the first inning and cruised into the regional final.
Stephanie Canfield, Emily Harms, Brooke Earl and Elizabeth Everingham had three hits for SJ-O.
Schlarman 12, Oakwood 1. Mariah Skaggs pitched a three-hitter and Casey Cromwell homered and drove in four runs for the Hilltoppers (22-11-1) in the Schlarman Regional semifinal.
Central 8, Charleston 1. Robbie Crow rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2 singles to help the visiting Maroons.
