Overstreet paces PBL against SJ-O

PAXTON – Dylan Overstreet pitched a four-hit shutout to lead Paxton-Buckley-Loda past St. Joseph-Ogden 5-0 on Tuesday in prep baseball.

Overstreet, Andy Fairchild, Jacob Bender and Jordan Glad each drove in a run for the Panthers (11-3). Overstreet walked three and struck out eight.

Andy Bensyl had two hits for the Spartans (7-7).

St. Joseph-Ogden's Lucas Gones was hit in the face by a line drive. He suffered a laceration but no broken bones.

"He still picked the ball up and got the out at first base," Spartans coach Brad Allen said. "He's tough as nails. He was throwing a great game to that point. It was a rallying point for our team, but we came up short. The W and the L doesn't really matter when something like that happens."

Allen said Gones is expected to miss about a week of action.

Mahomet-Seymour 2, Rantoul 0. Andrew Lawson pitched a two-hitter to power the visiting Bulldogs. Brannon Kwiatkowski's two-out, two-run double in the sixth proved decisive. Cody Flowers had both hits for the Eagles (4-6).

Unity 15, Tuscola 11. Austin Fender homered and Jacob Rice (two hits) drove in three runs for the visiting Rockets (9-1). Matt Pflum homered for the Warriors (6-7), who got three hits from Cody Shelmadine and three RBI from Tyler Clark.

Clinton 11, Central A&M 5. Cale Robinson had three hits and three RBI to lead the visiting Maroons. Jordan Good added two hits.

East Central 11, Armstrong-Potomac 4. John Essig had two hits and four RBI to spark the visiting Panthers (11-7). Travis Hawkins added two hits.

St. Thomas More 11, Watseka 1. Julian Boswell homered and Jason Herzog had two hits and three RBI for the host Sabers (13-2).

Danville 11, Hoopeston Area 1. Ryne Watson knocked in three runs for the visiting Vikings.

CPCI 17, Iroquois West 5. Jordan Wyss had two home runs and four RBI for the visiting Timberwolves (8-7).

Trevor Froehling had two hits and two RBI. Kyle Pool had two hits for the Raiders.

Monticello 9, Meridian 2. Jacob Williams struck out 18 for the visiting Sages. Ethan Carr paced the offense with three hits.

Salt Fork 12, Tri-Valley 8. Sawyer Howe had three hits for the visiting Storm (5-4). Nine Salt Fork players had at least one hit.

Blue Ridge 6, Deer Creek-Mackinaw 0. Cody Warren scattered seven hits and Caleb Davis had two hits and two RBI for the host Knights (4-12).

In softball:

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 7, Champaign Central 5. Monica Rondon homered for the visiting Maroons.

Danville 6, Oakwood 0. Bethany Zeigler had a pair of doubles for the host Vikings (7-2). McKenzie Hodges allowed two hits to improve to 7-1.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 10, Armstrong-Potomac 4. Shannon Zimmerman had a grand slam for the visiting Falcons (6-4).

Westville 6, Unity 5. Lauren Kirkpatrick's two-out single in the bottom of the sixth pushed across the go-ahead run for the Tigers (6-4). Kayla Bryant had three hits and two RBI.

Kasie Woodworth paced Unity with three hits and three steals.

St. Thomas More 12, Watseka 5. Becca Millage had four hits and Alyssa Vodacek clubbed a grand slam for the host Sabers (12-5).

Hoopeston Area 11, Bismarck-Henning 3. Kelsey Sollars struck out 10 and scattered three hits for the host Cornjerkers (7-4). Katie Goodrum added two hits and three RBI.

Olympia 3, Prairie Central 2. Kathryn Bahler had three hits for the visiting Hawks (7-6). Paige Heiser added two hits. Kaitlin Byrne took the loss despite allowing three hits.

Lovington-Arthur 6, Shiloh 3. Allison Chancellor and Ashley Stutzman had three hits and Miranda Tabb chipped in two for the host team.

Blue Ridge 2, Deer Creek-Mackinaw 1. Melinda Wilson collected two hits for the host Knights.

Rantoul 14, Mahomet-Seymour 3. Hanna Mennenga struck out 12 for the visiting Eagles (4-5). Nicole Smith homered for the Bulldogs (3-9).

In soccer:

Champaign Central 8, Springfield Southeast 0. Kim Vega scored twice and Mia Gilliam had a goal and three assists for the host Maroons (5-0-1).

Normal West 1, Urbana 0. Christi Stark made seven saves for the host Tigers (3-3-1).

Centennial 2, Normal U-High 1. Dagny Olson had a goal and an assist for the Chargers (5-1), who rallied after trailing 1-0 at the half. Chantal Meacham tied it before Olson's go-ahead tally. Keeper Micaela McLennand made 13 saves.

Mahomet-Seymour 5, Danville 1. Kara Breedlove scored three times for the host Bulldogs. Jamie Legner and Sarah Garrow also contributed a goal for M-S.

In tennis:

Centennial 5, St. Thomas More 4. Mauricio Gonzalez defeated John Tabb 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Chargers.

In boys' track & field:

At St. Joseph. Tom Jean won both hurdles races to lead St. Joseph-Ogden (70 points) past Champaign Central (67) and Rantoul (49).

At Paxton. Eric Fritzsche won the 200- and 400-meter sprints to lead Urbana Uni to victory in a four-team meet. Fisher's Chase Kelley captured the high jump and the triple jump.

At Catlin. Brandon Noe took the shot put (53 feet, 7 inches) and the discus (189-2) to lead St. Thomas More to the title of the eight-team Salt Fork Invitational.

In girls' track & field:

At Catlin. Amy Martin picked up wins in the long jump, the triple jump and the high jump to pace Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac's win in the Salt Fork Invitational.
