Steffen's triple lifts LeRoy in 16-inning thriller
LeROY – Eric Steffen's two-run triple drove in the winning runs as LeRoy outlasted Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 4-3 on Monday in a 16-inning prep baseball game.
Steffen had four hits, and his last one ended the four-hour affair. The game was tied at 2 for 12 innings before GCMS pushed across a run in the top of the 16th. LeRoy responded with two.
"One of those crazy games where both teams had chances," LeRoy coach Wayne Meyer said. "(Pitchers Tyler) Eads and (Scott) Van Winkle were amazing, matching zeroes on the scoreboard."
Eads pitched 11-plus innings. Van Winkle (3-1) got the win. Eads and Tyler Buhs had three hits for the Falcons.
Fisher 9, Ridgeview 7. Matt Elkins had three hits and drove in two runs for host Fisher.
Mattoon 10, Rantoul 7. Garrett Jones had three hits and two RBI for the host Eagles (5-10). Terry Deaville added two hits. The Green Wave grabbed the lead in the sixth on a grand slam.
Oakwood 13, Bismarck-Henning 5. Winning pitcher Casey Fletcher went 3 for 4 with four RBI for the visiting Comets (8-6). Fletcher improved to 5-0 on the mound. Trace McClintock had three RBI.
Argenta-Oreana 18, Meridian 1. Dylan Whicker hit a grand slam to lead the visiting Bombers' 16-hit attack. Brian Scott homered and drove in three runs for A-O (6-3). Austin Harris had four hits.
Schlarman 14, Westville 7. The host Hilltoppers (9-8) got three hits apiece from Zane Dillon and Brock Drews.
Salt Fork 6, Hoopeston Area 0. Joel Learnard fired a one-hitter, striking out 14, for the host Storm (8-4).
Arcola 3, Tri-County 0. Garrison Stenger allowed two hits and struck out 15 to lead the visiting Purple Riders (5-7).
Clinton 17, Tuscola 11. Aaron Ennis' grand slam sparked the visiting Maroons. Ennis had four hits and six RBI.
Prairie Central 14, Blue Ridge 2. Luke Bachtold slugged a grand slam and Marcus Bachtold had a solo homer for the visiting Hawks.
Monticello 16, Warrensburg-Latham 0. Jacob Williams pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 for the Sages (10-4) on the road. Williams had four hits, and Nick Huisinga added three.
Monticello 2, Meridian 1. Hannah Smith and Sam Terstriep scored in the first half for the host Sages (4-7).
Monticello 10, Tuscola 2. Sammi Thompson homered and drove in four runs for the host Sages (12-6). Kia Combs also knocked in four.
Fisher 7, Ridgeview 0. Caleigh Hennigh scattered six hits and Kalli Gosser had three hits for the host Bunnies (11-5).
Momence 5, Watseka 2. Katie LaVoie and Erin Cowan had three hits for the host Warriors (11-8), who left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings.
Rantoul 10, Urbana 0. Hanna Mennenga fired a no-hitter and chipped in three hits for the visiting Eagles (5-9). Kelsey Gass also had three hits.
Westville 11, Covington (Ind.) 1. Carson Richardson pitched a two-hitter for the visiting Tigers (9-5).
Bismarck-Henning 13, Oakwood 2. Winning pitcher Frankie Shoaf homered three times for the visiting Blue Devils (6-6).
Mahomet-Seymour 19, Champaign Central 5. Nicole Smith homered and Allison Gwinup had four hits for the visiting Bulldogs (6-9).

GCMS 8, LeRoy 3. Regan Romshek's three hits paced the visiting Falcons.
Heritage 12, South Piatt 7. The visiting Hawks (7-2) scored five times in the top of the ninth. Jenna Wyant had three hits.
