Kwiatkowski pads area home run lead

MAHOMET – Brannon Kwiatkowski homered three times and drove in seven runs for Mahomet-Seymour in a 13-3 win against Normal U-High on Thursday in Corn Belt baseball action.

Kwiatkowski, who has an area-best 13 homers, also scored four times for the Bulldogs. Alex Smith and winning pitcher Jason Ziegler also homered for M-S.

Prairie Central 7, Rantoul 3. Cody Flowers homered, doubled and drove in two runs for the Eagles.

St. Thomas More 10, CPCI 10. Jason Herzog and Julian Boswell each homered and drove in two runs for the visiting Sabers. Will Rudolphi struck out six and scattered six hits in six innings for STM (18-2), which has won 17 straight.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 13, Watseka 6. Winning pitcher Andy Fairchild had two hits, scored twice and drove in five runs for the host Panthers. Jordan Glad collected three hits and scored three times for PBL, which got a homer and three RBI from Connor Allen. John Braden had three hits and two RBI for Watseka.

In softball:

Blue Ridge 9, Hartsburg-Emden 0. Winning pitcher Jordan Wheeler (16-3) fired a four-hit shutout and homered. Marcie Crawford (three RBI) and Jordyn Fones had two hits apiece for the host Knights.

Watseka 8, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 2. Lauren Krumweide had three hits, including a grand slam for the visiting Warriors, who scored all eight of their runs in the sixth inning.

Centennial 6, Urbana 3. Julie Cutright went 4 for 4 with three doubles and three RBI to lift the host Chargers. Paige Johnson had two doubles and Abby Wiegand had two hits and two runs. Urbana got three hits and two RBI from Tess Allen.

Villa Grove 6, South Piatt 4. Cami Renfrow had a pair of hits for the visiting Blue Devils.

In girls' soccer:

Champaign Central 3, Bloomington 0. Kimberlyn Vega scored a pair of goals and Jordan Slade stopped 10 shots to lead the host Maroons.

Mia Gilliam also scored for Central.

Monticello 3, Judah Christian 0. Elyse Biesler scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the host Sages, who also got tallies from Samantha Terstriep and Sara Wells.

Centennial 7, Mattoon 0. Dagny Olson scored three goals and added two assists for the host Chargers. Hannah Radnitzer scored twice for Centennial.

Urbana University 1, Decatur Lutheran 0. Abigail Radnitzer scored off a pass from Elizabeth Allen for the visiting Illineks. Goalkeeper Eunjung Kim stopped six shots to earn the shutout.

In boys' tennis:

At Champaign. Nicholas Oporto and Mauricio Gonzalez each won in singles and teamed to win a doubles match for Centennial in a 5-4 win against Champaign Central. Akshay Krishnamani and Jake Schilling also posted wins for the Chargers.

At Danville. Ashish Patel, Love Shah, Ryan Dear, Yanis Mokraovi and Vidit Patel all posted singles wins for Danville in an 8-1 victory against St. Thomas More.
