Aquino, Luesse lift Central softball

DECATUR – Champaign Central swept Decatur Eisenhower in a Big 12 softball doubleheader Saturday.

Maeve Aquino picked up her first win of the season as the Maroons (3-17) won the first game 10-8. Aubrie Luesse had three RBI and Monica Rondon went 3 for 4 as Central beat the Panthers (5-15) in the second game 8-2.

Schlarman 4-4, Donovan 3-0. Jessica Moreman hit an RBI triple to key an eighth-inning rally in the first game and added a home run in the second as the host Hilltoppers (14-8) beat the Wildcats.

Normal West 7-11, Centennial 1-1. The Chargers (5-12, 2-4 Big 12) managed four hits in the doubleheader and were swept by the visiting Wildcats (19-0).

At Decatur. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley lost to Monticello 1-0, beat Romeoville 5-3 and beat Williamsville 4-3 at the Monticello Invitational.

St. Thomas More 6-9, Fisher 1-9. The visiting Sabers swept a doubleheader from the Bunnies behind home runs from Rebecca Millage and Sierra Myerscough and a grand slam from Brooke Schmidt.

Watseka 5-8, Prairie Central 4-18. Kathryn Grimes scored on a wild pitch to win the first game for the host Warriors (16-9), while Andrea Crook homered and doubled in a second-game loss.

Bloomington 11-21, Danville 0-7. Casey Cromwell went 2 for 2 with a double and a home run in the second game, but the Vikings (11-7, 2-3 Big 12) were swept by the Purple Raiders.

At Washington. Alie Tarrant had a home run, a triple and a double in separate games as Mahomet-Seymour split its Friday and Saturday contests at the Washington Panther Classic.

In baseball:

Normal West 13-14, Centennial 7-8. Dylan Hast went 2 for 2 with an RBI in the first game and Cory Weber went 3 for 3 with two runs in the second game, but the Chargers (13-9) were swept by the visiting Wildcats.

Normal Community 5-5, Urbana 1-3. Larry Green had four hits over the two games, but the Tigers (13-7, 2-3 Big 12) were swept by the visiting Ironmen (14-9, 4-3).

Danville 8, Bloomington 5. Drew Guthrie and Dennis Forrest combined to go 4 for 6 with three RBI as the Vikings (10-9, 2-4) upset the visiting Purple Raiders (14-8, 6-1).

GCMS 11, Clinton 1. Tyler Eads allowed one run over six innings and Jesse Brucker had three RBI as the Falcons beat the Maroons at the Clinton tournament.

Clinton 11, Athens 2. Josh Merrick allowed two unearned runs over seven innings and Aaron Ennis had three hits and three RBI as the Maroons beat the Warriors at the Clinton tournament.

In boys' tennis:

At Champaign. Effingham St. Anthony won titles in No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 doubles to capture the title at the 16-team Centennial Doubles Invite.

At Frankfort. Danville's Ashish Patel finished in 13th place while the doubles team of Love Shah and Matthew Kidwell finished fifth at the 24-team Lincoln-Way East tournament.

In girls' soccer:

Danville 4, Decatur MacArthur 1. Emma Peck scored twice and Elizabeth Kapella and Emily Johnson added goals as the Vikings cruised past the visiting Generals.
