Saturday's prep highlights: Zenner propels PBL

Baseball

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 16, Ridgeview 1. DAKOTA ZENNER's three hits and two RBI powered the Panthers. JIMMY QUINN chipped in two hits and two RBI.

Clinton 11, Heyworth 2. AARON ENNIS scattered five hits and struck out 14 to pace the Maroons. The offense was led by NIK HUBRICH, who collected two hits, and CALE ROBINSON, who drove in a pair.

Sullivan 3-9, Cerro Gordo 1-2. ANDREW SPARROW pitched a three-hitter and CHAD FRERICHS had two hits in the opener for Sullivan. The Redskins got three hits from ZACH RIGHTER (two RBI) in the second game.

Gardner-South Wilmington 11-6, Watseka 0-5. KEANON LAVOIE had two hits in the second game for the Warriors.

Hoopeston Area 3, Blue Ridge 2. TREVOR RUSH had two hits and two Cornjerkers pitchers combined to strike out 11. MARVIN CRAWFORD struck out eight and did not allow an earned run in five innings, and DAVID STEPHENS followed with two hitless innings.

Danville 10, Lincoln-Way Central 2. JUSTIN MARCH (two hits, five RBI) slugged a grand slam and ZACK THOMAS struck out 11 for the Vikings.

Softball

Blue Ridge 12-14, Unity 2-4. JORDAN WHEELER, MARCEY CRAWFORD and KALYN REYNOLDS homered in the opener for the Knights. In the second game, JAMISON BRANT homered and MELINDA WILSON added three hits and three RBI.

At Jackson, Tenn. Mahomet-Seymour went 0-4 in a tournament in Jackson, Tenn. ALISON TARRANT had two RBI in a 3-2 loss to Chester County, and VANESSA HEINHOLD drove in two in a 7-2 loss to Tamban Central.

PBL 13-10, Ridgeview 1-0. PBL's PAIGE SCHWARTZ had six hits in the doubleheader.

Soccer

Mount Zion 3, Danville 2. MALLORY SPARNICHT and EMMA PECK scored in the first half for the Vikings, who lost in a shootout, 2-1.

Tennis

At Metamora. LOVE SHAH was victorious at No. 2 singles and TYLER ELLIS teamed with MATTHEW KIDWELL for a win at No. 1 doubles in Danville's 3-2 loss to Moline at the Metamora Invitational.

Track & field

At Charleston. St. Joseph-Ogden's ZACH ELKINS won the 800 meters and teamed with CHAS COX, TOM JEAN and COLE JOHNSON to win the 1,600 relay in the Class 1A portion of the Eastern Illinois Invitational. The Spartans placed sixth in a field of 65 teams.

At Urbana. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's ANGEL GAESSER (800) and SYDNI MEUNIER (1,600) posted wins as the Falcons placed sixth in the Gene Armer Invitational.

In the boys' meet, Danville's JOVAN SHAW won the 800 as the Vikings captured second. Urbana won the 1,600 relay.
