Saturday's highlights: Wolken wins No. 800

Baseball

At Champaign. CAMERON LEE and JAKE ENGLAND had two hits apiece as Oakwood beat Champaign Central 5-1 in the third-place game of the Charlie Due tournament. The Maroons earlier lost to Springfield Southeast 8-2 despite a home run from KURTIS BROWN. JAKE HENSS had two hits.

At Tuscola. ANDREW SPARROW and GRANT KIDWELL each smacked a two-run homer to power Sullivan to an 8-3 victory against Cumberland in the Tuscola Invitational.

At Tolono. JOEL LEARNARD homered as Salt Fork beat Rockford Lutheran 3-1. Unity defeated Prairie Central 7-3 behind pitcher AUSTIN FENDER's 12 strikeouts.

Rantoul 6-17, Eureka 0-1. JESSE REMINGTON drove in four runs and TERRY DEAVILLE added three RBI as the Eagles completed a sweep. Deaville struck out 10 in the opener.

LeRoy 5-14, Cerro Gordo 4-4. NIC STEVENS slugged a three-run home run and drove in six runs as the Panthers finished off the sweep. NOLAN SAMMER contributed four hits and three RBI.

Softball

St. Joseph-Ogden 7, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 0. ELIZABETH EVERINGHAM scattered five hits as Spartans coach RANDY WOLKEN earned his 800th career victory.

Mahomet-Seymour 12, GCMS 2. ALISON TARRANT homered for the Bulldogs.

Schlarman 12, Centennial 0. BRITTANY HAY collected four singles, while RANDI COOKUS, CHELSEA WILLIS and LEA HALL had three hits to lead the unbeaten Hilltoppers. Schlarman also defeated Tri-Valley 5-2.

LeRoy 13-11, Cerro Gordo 3-2. ASHLEY WALKER had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs in the opener. STEPHANIE HOWELL chipped in three hits and two RBI. Walker added three more hits, including another homer, with five RBI in the nightcap.

Milford 17-9, Watseka 3-7. Milford's ANNA LUCHT went 5 for 5 with six RBI in the opener. Lucht, ASHLEN PORTWOOD and JENNA HEIDEMAN homered for the Bearcats.

Eureka 11, Rantoul 3. MACKINZIE MANNING homered for the Eagles.

Tennis

At Bloomington. TYLER ELLIS and MATTHEW KIDWELL finished fourth at No. 1 doubles in Bloomington's Purple and Gold tournament. The duo finished 2-2, including a three-set victory in the quarterfinals. Centennial's No. 3 doubles team of PETER KIM and PATRICK KEARNEY finished fifth after going 3-1.

At Chatham. CHANG-HEE LEE and AKENA SPONSLER posted singles wins in Urbana's 6-3 loss to Rochester. The Tigers also dropped a 9-0 decision against Chatham Glenwood.

Soccer

Danville 7, Decatur Eisenhower 0. ELIZABETH KAPELLA had a hat trick and KIM CARTER added two goals for the Vikings.

Centennial 2, Charleston 0. The Chargers improved to 4-1 behind first-half goals from KATELYNN MARTINEZ and TIEGE RICE.

Track & Field

At Homewood. SHELBY STEVENSON won the pole vault at 10 feet, 9 inches as the Urbana girls placed 11th in the 20-team invitational at Homewood-Flossmoor.

At Springfield. Danville's CIRRON CLARK won the pole vault (14-3) and took second in the triple jump at the Springfield Lanphier quad. JOVON SHAW was second in the 1,600.

At Metamora. Central's PRINCE NIMY was second in the 200 and third in the 100 at the Metamora Invitational. In the girls' meet, Central's SAMONE THOMPSON was third in the high jump.
