Monday's prep highlights: Shoaf tosses no-hitter
LeRoy 7, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 5. ERIC STEFFEN homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the Panthers. BRANDON BRONKE and JAMES METTRICK added a pair of hits. ALEX KEMMER collected two hits for the Falcons.
Oakwood 4, Bismarck-Henning 2. Winning pitcher ZACH CARNAHAN scattered seven hits for the Comets. SAM SHOAF and TYLER McKENZIE had two hits for Bismarck-Henning.
St. Joseph-Ogden 7-1, Clifton Central 4-3. LOUIS ACKLIN pitched a two-hitter in the opener and JARED ORCUTT led the SJ-O offense with two hits and an RBI.
Heyworth 14, Fisher 2. TAW FREDRICKSON had a two-run double for the Bunnies.
Salt Fork 7, Hoopeston Area 1. The Storm (18-3) won its seventh straight behind three hits and two RBI from ROSS LEARNARD. JOEL LEARNARD and NATHAN GEORGE homered and added two RBI apiece.
Paxton-Buckley-Loda 6, Watseka 4. NATE MORRIS went 3 for 3 with two RBI to power the Panthers. BRAD BATTE added two hits and two RBI. TANNER HARRIS also had two hits.
St. Teresa 4, Clinton 2. Clinton's JOSH MERRICK allowed five hits, but the Maroons' offense was limited to one hit.
Schlarman 7, Westville 2. AUSTIN CALHOUN had two hits and winning pitcher ADAM PELLEGRINI did not allow an earned run.
Blue Ridge 4, Fieldcrest 3. Winning pitcher CONNOR BUILTA struck out six.
Arthur-Lovington 10-17-Martinsville 0-4. DANIEL ALLEN knocked in two runs in the first game, and JAKE HATTEN went 4 for 4 with three RBI as the Knights completed the sweep. JUSTIN HAYES had three hits and ZACH RILEY two in the Game 2 win.
Olympia 14, Monticello 3. ALLIE HISLOPE homered and SARAH FORAN added two hits for the Sages.
Schlarman 10, Westville 1. The Hilltoppers got three RBI from DARRIAN CHRZANOSKI. LOHGAN BRYANT added two hits and two RBI.
Watseka 5-5, PBL 4-7. JJ VALENTINE had three hits as the Panthers earned a split. Watseka's HAYLEY GRAY tossed a three-hitter in the opener.
Iroquois West 6, St. Anne 2. MORGAN SMALL fired a two-hitter and CATHERINE BRAEMER collected two hits and two RBI to lead the Raiders.
GCMS 8, Pontiac 4. KAITI BOWEN homered and collected three hits for the Falcons (17-6). COURTNEY GRAMLEY added two hits and three RBI.
Fisher 8, LeRoy 4. RACHEL KELLEY went 3 for 4 and KALLI GOSSER chipped in two hits while scoring four times for the Bunnies.
Bismarck-Henning 17, Oakwood 0. FRANKIE SHOAF pitched a five-inning no-hitter, fanning seven. LEXI BALLARD keyed the offense, collecting three hits and three RBI.
Okaw Valley 11, Shiloh 3. KAYTIE ORRIS had two hits and two RBI as Okaw Valley took advantage of eight Shiloh errors. The Raiders got two hits from STEPHANIE HUNT.
Normal West 6, Danville 0. MICHALEEN FORMAN had two of the Vikings' three hits.
Track and field
At Arthur. HECTOR SALINAS won the 400-meter dash and QUINTON RISLEY captured the 110-meter high hurdles as Arcola used its depth to edge Arthur-Lovington for the boys' Little Okaw Valley Conference crown. The Purple Riders had 156 points to A-L's 147. The Knights got three wins from JESSE DAILY (high jump, long jump, triple jump) and two from MATTHEW CHUPP (800, 300 hurdles). Villa Grove's TYLER PEARCE was victorious in the shot put and the discus.
At Arthur. Three double-winners — ALEXIS CONLIN, SAM REECE and ERIN LINDENMEYER — powered Arcola to the LOVC girls' title. Reece won the 100 and 200. Conlin took the 1,600 and the 3,200, while Lindenmeyer captured the 400 and 800.
At Monticello. Tuscola finished second in the boys' Okaw Valley Conference meet behind wins from ALEX KEMP (100, 200), JACK LEONARD (shot put) and JUD WIENKE (discus). Monticello's STEVE SCHROEDER won both distance events, including a 9:58.64 clocking in the 3,200.
At Paxton. St. Joseph-Ogden nearly swept the field events to win the boys' Sangamon Valley Conference meet. ALEX SIGALA (shot put), KYLE DYKE (high jump), ALEX ARTEAGA (long jump, triple jump) and THOMAS JEAN (pole vault) won field events for the Spartans. CHAS COX won the 800 and LANDON VOWELS took the 1,600 for SJ-O.
At Gibson City. NICK RUTHERFORD won the 300 hurdles in the Falcons' meet against Blue Ridge, Pontiac and LeRoy. In the girls' meet, GCMS won the team title by one point over Pontiac. SYDNI MEUNIER won the 400 in 1:03.2.
First Baptist 3, Decatur Christian 0. First Baptist finished its season 7-0-1 behind two goals from KIMMY MONTGOMERY. ALICIA MOODY also scored.
