Wednesday's highlights: Storm wins slugfest

Baseball

Danville 2, Normal West 1. Zack Thomas hit the game-winning home run in the seventh inning for the host Vikings (18-8). Cody Burton (5-3) scattered six hits, and Chuckie Robinson went 2 for 3.

Salt Fork 16, Tuscola 8. Joel Learnard hit three homers for the visiting Storm, which got round-trippers from Mat Bowen and David Keenan. Jacob Barr hit two homers for Tuscola, which also had a homer from Pat Yoakum.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 8, Watseka 0. DYLAN KINGREN struck out 15 in a five-hit shutout as the Panthers hit the 20-win mark. TANNER HARRIS had three hits. JORDAN GLAD and BROCK JOHNSON each drove in two runs for PBL.

CPCI 12, Milford 2. WYATT FROEHLING had a home run among his four hits, and RICK TRASK pitched five scoreless innings for CPCI.

Mahomet-Seymour 9, Centennial 2. JASON ZIEGLER hit a three-run homer and struck out 10 as the Bulldogs won at Centennial. LYLE BURNS had two hits for M-S (15-9). GERED BALES had two hits for the Chargers.

Bismarck-Henning 18, Westville 7. AUSTIN TOLER had four hits and TYLER McKENZIE had three hits and four runs for the Blue Devils. NICK JONES and KYLE BRAZAS each had two RBI for Westville.

Oakwood 20, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 9. CAMERON LEE homered and drove in three runs. Oakwood teammate TYLER KNIGHT had three RBI. ZACK GIRTON got the win.

Fisher 8, Fieldcrest 4. TREY ROGERS (5-1) struck out 12 as the Bunnies moved into the Heart of Illinois quarterfinals. Rogers had three hits. PARKER PERRERO homered for Fisher.

Arcola 5-4, Arthur-Lovington 4-1. NIK DUFFLE had four hits, three for extra bases, as Arcola swept a twin bill from the Knights. GARRISON STENGER fanned 10 in a four-hit opening-game win. Reliever PEDRO LEAL was the second-game winner.

Schlarman 6, Armstrong-Potomac 3. ZACH MILLER pitched a four-hitter for Schlarman. A-P's KOLTON VERMILLION hit a home run.

Softball

Schlarman 6, Armstrong-Potomac 3. MARIA RANGEL drove in two runs and KELSEY SOLLARS (14-1) pitched a complete game for Schlarman, the state's top-rated Class 1A team.

Westville 4, B-H 1. Abby Barth went 3 for 3 (triple, RBI) and Taylor Poggendorf was 2 for 4 (triple, RBI) for the host Tigers (14-7). Elyse Lippert doubled and drove in a run for Bismarck-Henning. TAYLOR CEADER won her 14th game.

Okaw Valley 7-3, Villa Grove 0-14. TANAYA BEHL had five hits, including a home run, and drove in seven runs as Villa Grove salvaged a split against Okaw Valley with a win in Game 2. Teammate SARAH SHOWALTER had two hits in each game.

Tuscola 12, Central A&M 2. EMMA COMERFORD and SAM LEDBETTER each had two hits for Tuscola and ERIN WALKER (14-4) pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine. Ledbetter had a homer and drove in four runs.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5, Oakwood 0. LACEY KRABEL fired a six-hit shutout for G-RF.

South Piatt 10, Shiloh 0. Kaitie Wildman threw a one-hitter, striking out seven, and Katrina Freeman was 3 for 3 to lead the host Wildcats.

Boys' track & field

At Bismarck. Bismarck-Henning's Hunter Peterson swept the 110-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles in a triangular meet against Westville and Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac. The Blue Devils took team honors. Shane Foley of O/A-P won the 100 (11.34 seconds) and 200 (24.97) dashes.

Girls' soccer

Reed-Custer 10, St. Thomas More 4. JADE BRINKOETTER scored twice for the Sabers, who suffered a season-ending regional loss at Braidwood. ASHLEY COX had a goal and an assist, as did GEN HARRINGTON.
