Saturday's prep highlights: SJ-O sweeps twin bill

In baseball

St. Joseph-Ogden 2-12, Danville 1-2. LOUIS ACKLIN scattered four hits in six innings to pick up the win for the host Spartans in Game 1. ANDY BENSYL put SJ-O ahead with a two-run double in the third. In the nightcap, AARON WOLLER had three hits (two doubles) and three RBI to pace the SJ-O offense. HUNTER HART added two hits and two RBI.

Pontiac 4-2, Champaign Central 2-0. KURTIS BROWN homered for the Maroons in Game 1 and freshman NOAH WELLS struck out four and allowed one earned run in his varsity debut in the nightcap.

East Central 7, Warrensburg-Latham 1. JOE ESSIG pitched six innings, striking out six, to pick up the win for the host Panthers. COLIN DALY paced the offensive attack with three RBI.

Oakwood 10, Tuscola 6. The visiting Comets got home runs from TYLER KNIGHT (three hits) and KYLE GIRTON (two hits) in the win. ZACH GIRTON collected four hits, and CAMERON LEE had three. Tuscola got three hits from NOLAN WALSH and two from JOSH BROOKINS.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 4-1, CPCI 3-11. CAMERON REDEKER went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI to lead the host Falcons in Game 1. JOSH MARQUEZ, who picked up the win in Game 2, went 3 for 3 for CPCI in the opener with two runs. ALEX RABE had a double and a triple in Game 2 for the Timberwolves, who got two hits and three RBI from RICK TRASK.

Argenta-Oreana 7-14, Fisher 1-9. The host Bunnies were swept, despite getting four hits, including two triples and a double, and three runs from TAW FREDRICKSON on the day.

Bismarck-Henning 10-2, Watseka 4-12. JAKE LYZNICKI went 2 for 2 with three runs and WESTIN FREEHILL went 3 for 4 with five RBI for Watseka in a Game 2 win. Bismarck-Henning's DEVIN HEINRICHS was 3 for 3 with a run.

Cerro Gordo 7-13, Blue Ridge 2-10. KALEB KRIGBAUM had two hits and drove in three runs to help the visiting Broncos win the opener. TIM WEAVER (three hits) and BAILEY RUNYEN (two hits) each drove in three runs in the second game. CONNOR BUILTA had three hits, two RBI and two runs on the day for the Knights.

Clinton 7-12, Ridgeview 2-11. NATE ENNIS (two RBI) and ANTHONY MERRICK (RBI) each had two hits for the visiting Maroons in the opener. The Mustangs got two hits and two RBI from DANA BOSE. LOGAN WOOLRIDGE's two hits paced Clinton in the second game.

Urbana 11-11, Kankakee 1-1. The host Tigers got four hits, four RBI and two runs from TANNER RUSSELL in the doubleheader sweep. JARED BROOM (two doubles) added three hits and three RBI for Urbana, which got a one-hit, six-strikeout outing from CONNER GREMER in Game 2.

In softball

Manteno 7-10, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 1-1. PAIGE SCHWARTZ had two hits for the host Panthers in Game 2.

Bradley-Bourbonnais 7, Rantoul 0. The Eagles were held to three hits in losing to the visiting Boilermakers.

Hoopeston Area 20-33, Champaign Central 0-0. In the opener, BRYCE FRANKLIN and KAARYN WYSS combined on a no-hitter for the visiting Cornjerkers. RYLEE MARTIN (four RBI) and MEAGAN McCADE each had three hits. Franklin (four hits) and BROOKE KINNEY each had four hits in Game 2 as Wyss and Martin combined to throw a one-hit shutout.

Westville 12, Centennial 3. The host Tigers got a three-run homer in the first inning from JI'CEE LACEY to take control. Lacey finished with three hits and four RBI. ABBY BARTH added three hits, two runs and three RBI. Centennial got three hits, a run and an RBI from COURTNEY STAMM.

Herscher 3-3, Watseka 0-0. HAYLEY GRAY took the loss in the opener for visiting Watseka, allowing two hits and no earned runs. Gray also had one of six hits in Game 1 for Watseka. The Warriors were no-hit in the second game.

Blue Ridge 18-15, Cerro Gordo 0-0. JORDAN WHEELER fired a perfect game in the opener with 10 strikeouts for the Knights. Wheeler also connected on a three-run homer. JAMISON BRANDT (two hits, four runs) and KYLEE BECK (two hits, four RBI) also starred offensively. Wheeler added a two-run homer in the second game, and MELINDA WILSON (three RBI) also homered. LIZ CORDES (three hits, three runs, two RBI) and CHEYE BERES (two hits, three RBI) also contributed.

Putnam County 1-3, Schlarman 0-4. The visiting Hilltoppers won Game 2 thanks to LEA HALL's two hits, which included a home run and three RBI. SYDNE BRYANT added two hits and MINDY GARRELTS drove in a run.

Milford 17, Tri-Point 16. KYLIE SCHERF went 3 for 4 with three RBI and two stolen bases to lead the host Bearcats, who rallied from a four-run deficit in the seventh inning.

In track & field

At Sterling. Clinton's JASON BANAKER won the boys' 400 meters and KATE KASTER won the girls' 1,600 in helping the Maroons finish third in the combined boys' and girls' standings at the Sterling Indoor Invitational. The boys' 800 and 1,600 relay teams were winners in helping the Maroons claim the boys' title.

At Bloomington. DEREK BUNCH won the shot put and his Mahomet-Seymour teammate CALE McCORMICK was third in the 800 at the Prep Top Times Class 2A meet. The Bulldogs' 1,600 relay team was second and the 3,200 relay team finished third. Champaign Central's KENDNELL THOMPSON was second in the 55 hurdles, and Urbana's 800 relay team finished second.

In tennis

At Metamora. Centennial finished fifth at the Metamora team tournament, led by the doubles team of SUNNY SINGH and MAX ZHENG. The duo won a pair of doubles matches and each won a singles match for the Chargers.
