Wednesday's prep highlights: A-P's Vermillion fans 18

In baseball

A-P 4, Fisher 2. Winning pitcher Kolton Vermillion fanned 18 batters for host Armstrong-Potomac. He also homered for the Trojans, who received two hits and an RBI from Brandon Sparks and two RBI from Davin Miles. The Bunnies were led by Kyle Williams and Tate Estes, who each had a double and an RBI. PARKER PERRERO also doubled.

South Piatt 2, A-L 1. Andy Webb (3 for 4) homered and doubled twice for the Wildcats against host Arthur-Lovington. Shane Hall went 2 for 3 for South Piatt, which received 10 strikeouts from winning pitcher Connor Gross. Tyler Schuring recorded eight strikeouts for the Knights.

SJ-O 5, Centennial 1. STEPHEN DUNN pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and HUNTER HART went 4 for 4 as the Spartans won in Champaign.

Urbana 12, Sullivan 6. MICHAEL THOMPSON had three hits and three runs, DUSTIN LARD had three hits and BRIAN SUMMERS chipped in two hits and two RBI for the Tigers (3-7), who scored seven runs in the sixth inning. ANDY BROWN had two triples in the loss.

East Central 10, Cerro Gordo 2. JOHN TAYLOR, JOHN ESSIG and COLIN DALY each had two hits and BRANDON UMBARGER had four RBI as the Panthers scored 10 runs in the first three innings. KALEB KRIGBAUM had three hits in the loss.

Villa Grove 12, Arcola 1. JAKE REIFSTECK went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBI and CAMERON KNELL added two hits and two RBI for the visiting Blue Devils (1-5).

Schlarman 5, PBL 2. ALEC NEAL went 2 for 4 and TYLER BRENNAN pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Hilltoppers. RONNIE SODERSTROM and DALTON DIEU had RBI in the win. CODY EMBERSON had two RBI for the Panthers.

Mattoon 13, Mahomet-S. 0. Cully Day and Dalton Kerans each had a hit for the Bulldogs in nonconference play.

In softball

Monticello 11, PBL 0. CHRISSY GADBURY homered and JAIMEY WATROUS pitched a one-hitter for the Sages (6-1). LACEY FORBES had a hit for Paxton-Buckley-Loda (7-3).

Lovington-Arthur 13, South Piatt 3. ASHLEY TABB was 4 for 4 with four RBI and pitched five innings for the win. BROOKE TABB, KATE KAUFFMAN and SHERRELLE COLLER each added two hits, and MALLORY RENFRO had two RBI.

Charleston 10, Rantoul 7. Host Charleston snapped a 5-5 tie with five runs in the fourth inning.

Fisher 8, A-P 3. KALLI GOSSER went 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases to spark the Bunnies. KELCIE FREDRICKSON pitched a five-hitter, and HANNAH VARNER had two hits and two runs.

Shiloh 12, Martinsville 2. STEPHANIE HUNT pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and helped her cause with three hits, three runs, three stolen bases and two RBI.

Heritage 12, Cerro Gordo 3. MIRANDA PRUITT improved to 2-0 and sparked the offense with four hits for the Hawks (6-2). STEPHANIE SANDERSON added three hits and HILARY SMITH had two in the win. JESSICA BLUNT led Cerro Gordo with two hits.

SJ-O 4, Bishop McNamara 2. STEPHANIE CANFIELD had three hits, two RBI and three stolen bases for the host Spartans, who rallied with three runs in the sixth inning. MADDY POULTER had an RBI and two runs to support winning pitcher ELIZABETH EVERINGHAM (5-0), who scattered six hits.
