Thursday's prep highlights: Quinn sparkles for PBL

In baseball

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 5, St. Thomas More 2. The host Panthers got three RBI from JIMMY QUINN while DREW SCHRODT (RBI) and JAY ESHLEMAN (run) each had a hit.

Charleston 13, Urbana 7. Salman Khan (two runs) and MICHAEL THOMPSON each had two hits and two RBI for the host Tigers.

Armstrong-Potomac 7, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 3. LUKE GERNAND and LEWIS IRVIN (two runs) each had two hits for the visiting Trojans.

Prairie Central 9, Lexington 2. DEVIN CREWS went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs to lift the visiting Hawks. Winning pitcher JORDAN DUNAHEE scattered five hits and struck out nine.

CPCI 10, Clifton Central 3. WYATT FROEHLING and TREVOR FROEHLING each had a hit and an RBI for the host Timberwolves.

Watseka 6-5, Iroquois West 1-4. ROBIN HASSELBRING and BROCK MYERS each had two hits and two RBI to lift the host Warriors in Game 1. Winning pitcher KEANON LaVOIE went 3 for 3 in Game 2 with an RBI. Myers added two hits and two RBI.

Seeger (Ind.) 10, Bismarck-Henning 0. The host Blue Devils got two hits apiece from SAM SHOAF, CHASE SWINFORD and DEVIN HEINRICHS.

East Central 5, Hoopeston Area 1. JOHN ESSIG had two hits and drove in three runs for the host Panthers, who got seven strikeouts from freshman pitcher CYRUS FURGESON.

Clinton 14, Blue Ridge 2. JOSH MERRICK collected three hits, including a double and a three-run homer, to lift the host Maroons. MARSHALL SPRAGUE also had three hits. ANTHONY MERRICK (three RBI) and GREG OSGOOD had two hits apiece. KYLE BIRK picked up the win, allowing three hits with nine strikeouts.

Rantoul 3, Unity 2. The visiting Eagles got two hits from TANNER McLAIN in the win. AUSTIN FENDER took the loss for the Rockets despite striking out 12.

Monticello 5, LeRoy 4. AUSTIN REED picked up the win in relief for visiting Monticello, allowing two hits with four strikeouts in three innings.

Ridgeview 7, Cornerstone Christian 3. DANA BOSE and KORY PFOFF each had two hits and two RBI for the visiting Mustangs.

In softball

Tuscola 10, Urbana 0. ERIN WALKER tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts. She allowed one base runner, a walk that was erased when the runner was caught stealing. SAM LEDBETTER (two-run homer), KELSEY CLELAND and EMMA COMERFORD each drove in two runs.

Blue Ridge 4, Villa Grove 0. MELINDA WILSON (RBI) and CHANDLER MORROW each had two hits for the visiting Knights in support of winning pitcher JORDAN WHEELER, who fired a three-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts.

Clinton 14, Ridgeview 1. HANNAH LONG went 4 for 4 with two RBI and BAILEY WALKER allowed one hit and struck out 10 to pace the visiting Maroons. Walker and MEGAN TOOL each had two hits and two RBI.

Salt Fork 9, Covington (Ind.) 1. KALYN LEARNARD and DANYALE RICHARDS each had two hits and an RBI for the visiting Storm.

Unity 12, Oakwood 0. BROOKE CHILTON (home run, three RBI), TAYLOR SPIVEY (three RBI, two runs), TAYLOR STARK (two RBI) and McKENZIE KRUTSINGER all had two hits to power the host Rockets. LACY PRUITT added three hits with three runs and an RBI.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 8, St. Thomas More 6. AMANDA YPYA belted a solo home run while winning pitcher LIZ SATTERLEE and PAIGE SCHWARTZ each had RBI singles in the sixth inning to put host PBL in front. The Sabers got two hits and two runs from BROOKE SCHMIDT.

Watseka 17-15, Iroquois West 2-4. MARIAH CARROLL had three hits, three runs and two RBI for the host Warriors. KAT GRIMES (three runs, four RBI) and JESSI THOMPSON (three RBI, two runs) each had two hits.

Rantoul 10, Decatur MacArthur 0. The host Eagles got four hits and two RBI from KATEY SILVER and a two-run triple from HANNAH CARGO. Winning pitcher JAMIE HEDRICK tossed a two-hit shutout.

In girls' soccer

Champaign Central 1, Urbana 0. HANNAH WALKER scored the lone goal for the visiting Maroons on an assist from SARAH KRESCA. LAURA HORVAT made six saves for Central.

Normal Community 6, Centennial 2. GRACE AYODELE and ANNIE REGAN each scored unassisted goals for the host Chargers.

Decatur Lutheran 2, Judah Christian 0. ERIN HUGGETT made 11 saves for the host Tribe in the loss.

Urbana University 1, Monticello 0. MARA DOLAN's goal in the first half won it for the Illineks.

Mahomet-Seymour 4, Bloomington Central Catholic 0. KAYLA THOMPSON scored twice for the host Bulldogs, who moved to 7-0. SARAH VanWINGERDEN and MARISA ELLIS also scored goals.

In boys' tennis

At Urbana. JAMES TRESSLER, BRIAN FALLON, SEAN MONAHAN, NATHANIEL THOMAS, BRYTON BUI and JOSHUA STRINGER all won singles matches for St. Thomas More in an 8-1 win against Urbana. WILEY JONES teamed with COLIN KELLEY and DANIEL VETTER paired with JEFF COHOON to win doubles matches for the Sabers.

At Normal. AUSTIN ATEN, RYAN SMITH, SAMUEL WAMPLER and PAUL MITCHELL all won singles matches for Champaign Central in a 5-4 loss to Normal Community.

In track & field

At Catlin. Salt Fork edged Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman in the boys' meet thanks to triple winner KALEB WEAVER (triple jump, long jump, 400 meters). G-RF/C's GEORGE FOEHRER won the 100 and 200 while Villa Grove's RYAN PEARCE won the shot put and discus.

In the girls' meet, Salt Fork won thanks to two-event winners RACHEL NEGANGARD (shot put, discus) and TORIA PLOTNER (200, 400). Villa Grove's MARANDA BENEFIELD won the long jump and 100.

At Centralia. Centennial's AUDREY WHITE won the 3,200 and the 800 relay team of AVONA GREENE, JEWEL GOODLY, LaTOYAH MASON and BERTHA FRAZIER was victorious. DOMINIQUE LEWIS joined Greene, Mason and Frazier in winning the 1,600 relay.

At Gibson City. Paxton-Buckley-Loda's HAYDEN YOUNG won the 3,200 and 1,600 in leading the Panthers to a second-place finish at the boys' Falcon Invitational.
