Thursday's prep highlights: Owens shines for Chargers

In baseball

Centennial 2 Mattoon 1. Zach Owens did not allow an earned run in pitching a four-hit complete game for the host Chargers (15-6). Zach Parks scored the winning run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Drake PeraTt.

Iroquois West 10, Tri-Point 0. Henry Gerritson doubled and had four RBI for the host Raiders, who scored all of their runs in the first three innings. Kyle Pool pitched a two-hit shutout.

Watseka 6, CPCI 5. Trailing 4-1 entering the top of the seventh, the Warriors stormed back with five runs and held off a Timberwolves' rally in the bottom of the inning. Austin Hasselbring had a double and two RBI for Watseka. Alex Rabe drove in three runs and Rick Trask went 3 for 3 with two RBI for CPCI.

Normal West 9, Rantoul 1. Chris Deaville had the Eagles' lone RBI in the road loss.

Monticello 6, Urbana 3. The Sages built a 6-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings and held off the host Tigers. Freshman reliever David Vanderkloot shut out Urbana over the final two innings for a save.

Isaac Bales scored twice for Monticello, while Dustin Lard doubled and drove in a run for the Tigers.

Attica 14, Bismarck-Henning 4. Stephen Krout had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Blue Devils in a home defeat.

PBL 12, Schlarman 4. Jay Eshelman went 3 for 5 and Cody Emberson drove in two runs for the Panthers in a road win. Lucas Spezia was 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Hilltoppers.

St. Teresa 11, Clinton 4. Marshall Sprague went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI in a home loss.

Hartsburg-Emden 8, Blue Ridge 4. C.J. Bishop doubled and drove in two runs for the Knights in a home defeat.

St. Joseph-Ogden 9, Clifton Central 2. Stephen Dunn improved to 8-0 with a five-hit shutout for the visiting Spartans. Dunn struck out 10. Aaron Woller, Blake Hoveln and Jake Stewart had two hits apiece for SJ-O.

Tuscola 5, Neoga 3. Jacob Barr shut out Neoga over the final five innings and the Warriors scored twice in the top of the 12th inning to pull out the win.

T.J. Onstott (3 for 5) and Philip Meyer homered for Tuscola.

Danville 3, Champaign Central 0. Michael Vascura pitched a three-hit shutout and went 2 for 3 with two RBI to lead the Vikings to a home victory.

Vascura (4-2) struck out seven. Tanner McQuown doubled twice for Danville.

Judah Christian 11, Springfield Calvary 0. Dylan Hamilton earned the win for the visiting Tribe.

In softball

Mattoon 18, Centennial 0. The Chargers were held to one hit in a five-inning home loss.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 14, Shiloh 5. Alyssa Sawyer went 3 for 4, with a double and triple, and drove in two runs for the Buffaloes in a home win.

Lauren Moses homered and had three RBI for Shiloh.

Blue Ridge 13, Hartsburg-Emden 1. Liz Cordes went 4 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBI, powering the Knights to a five-inning home win.

Jordan Wheeler struck out eight and allowed four hits in a complete-game win.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 11, Hoopeston Area 1. Kaiti Bowen had three hits and two RBI for the Falcons in a road win.

Jessica Hunter pitched a five-hit complete game for the win.

Urbana 15, Champaign Central 0. The Tigers scored at least three runs in each inning in rolling to a five-inning home win. Jessica Kearns shut out the Maroons on four hits.

Tess Allen scored four runs and drove in two for Urbana. Lexi White had three of the Tigers' 11 hits.

St. Teresa 6, Unity 4. Taylor Stark had two hits and two RBI for the Rockets in a home defeat.

St. Joseph-Ogden 21, Clifton Central 0. Elizabeth Everingham pitched a five-inning no-hitter and had four hits as the Spartans improved to 22-0.

Shelby Franzen and Mickaela Fleming also contributed four hits apiece to SJ-O's 23-hit attack.

Central A&M 6, Tuscola 0. The host Warriors were held to two hits and committed five errors in falling to 16-3.

In girls' soccer

Monticello 8, Decatur Christian 0. Eight different players scored for the Sages in a home win. Emily Wells had a goal and an assist for Monticello (4-9-1).

Champaign Central 2, St. Teresa 1. Sarah Kresca and Maddy Chalifoux scored for the Maroons in a road win.

St. Thomas More 7, Danville 0. Louisette Lukusa had two goals and three assists for the Sabers in a road win.

Jade Brinkoetter contributed a goal and four assists, while keeper Lexie Wallen notched her ninth shutout of the season.

Centennial 2 Urbana 1. Katelynn Martinez's second goal of the match broke a 1-1 tie in the second half and lifted the Chargers to a road win. Melinda Mendoza scored unassisted for the Tigers.

Mahomet-Seymour 1, Bloomington 0. Morgan Paintner scored in the first half and Kathy Bradley's four saves helped the lead stand up for the Bulldogs (11-1-1) in a home win.

Urbana University High 2, Mattoon 1. The visiting Illineks overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit on goals by Mara Dolan and Sarah Vaughen.

In boys' tennis

St. Thomas More 9, Paris 0. Travis Tressler, Brian Fallon and Nathaniel Thomas did not lose a game in singles for the Sabers, who rolled to a home win at Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana.
