Thursday's prep highlights: Bombers edge Sages

In baseball

Argenta-Oreana 2, Monticello 1. The host Bombers got an RBI single from LOGAN SPARK in the fifth inning that proved to be the game-winner. Monticello's NICK STOKOWSKI struck out 13 in the loss, and ROSS REEDER hit a solo home run.

Danville 7, Mattoon 4. Winning pitcher CHASE THURSTON, who drove in a pair of runs, scattered five hits and struck out eight for the host Vikings. MICHAEL DALTON added two hits.

Centennial 5-9, Urbana 1-7. The host Chargers won the opener behind the pitching and hitting of RYAN McCUSKEY. McCuskey scattered four hits to improve to 3-1 and went 2 for 3 with two RBI. DRAKE PERATT also had two hits for the Chargers in the opener. In the second game, LUCAS STEFAN and GREY SCHULTZ each had two hits and two RBI. MICHAEL THOMPSON, TANNER RUSSELL (two runs, two RBI) and NICK AMAYA (RBI) all had two hits for the Tigers.

Ridgeview 13, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 2. The visiting Mustangs got three hits from DYLAN REUSTMAN, including a three-run homer, and four RBI.

Windsor 8, Arthur-Lovington 0. JAKE HATTEN recorded two of the host Knights' five hits.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 6, CPCI 3. JIMMY QUINN (two RBI) and TANNER HARRIS (RBI) each had two hits for the host Panthers. CPCI's ALEX RABE recorded two hits and two RBI and STERLING YOUNG added a solo home run.

Armstrong-Potomac 9, Hoopeston Area 7. DAWSON LOSCHEN, who went 2 for 3 with three RBI, doubled to drive in the game-winning runs in the host Trojans' three-run sixth inning. KOLTON VERMILLION (two RBI) and LUKE GERNAND each had two hits and scored twice. ROSS LANGE went 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for the Cornjerkers.

Clinton 3, Sullivan 2. Winning pitcher JOSH MERRICK fired a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lift the host Maroons. GREG OSGOOD hit a two-run single to put Clinton ahead 3-2 in the fifth.

Beecher 12, Watseka 5. AUSTIN HASSELBRING, JAKE LYZNICKI and CALEB PARKER (RBI) all had two hits and a run for the host Warriors, who gave up 10 runs in the sixth inning.

Rantoul 11, Pontiac 5. The host Eagles jumped to a 5-0 lead in their Corn Belt Conference tournament game and got three hits apiece from JAKE FRERICHS, TANNER McLAIN and TOM WOLKEN (two RBI). TERRY DEAVILLE and MARTY MENNENGA each had two hits and two RBI.

Salt Fork 10, Westville 0. ROSS LEARNARD improved to 4-1, firing a five-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts for the host Storm. DAVID SACRE went 3 for 3 with five RBI. DREW COLLOM also had three hits.

St. Joseph-Ogden 10, Iroquois West 1. LOUIS ACKLIN scattered four hits in earning the win for the visiting Spartans.

Bloomington 4, Champaign Central 0. KURTIS BROWN, JAKE CRIBBETT and NICK BRUNSON each had a hit for the visiting Maroons.

St. Teresa 5, Unity 1. AARON LARSON collected two hits for the visiting Rockets.

Central A&M 3, Tuscola 2. PHILIP MEYER drove in a pair of runs for the visiting Warriors.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 15, Milford 2. JAKE BRASKER had four hits, two runs and two RBI to power the visiting Buffaloes. KORIE VIRE had three hits, including a home run, three runs and three RBI while DYLAN COSAT added three hits, three runs and an RBI.

Schlarman 1, Oakwood 0. TYLER BRENNAN pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 as the Hilltoppers blanked Oakwood. The lone Schlarman run was scored in the second inning. JORDAN KING was hit by a pitch with two outs, and NICK CATLIN delivered the run-scoring single. Oakwood's JAKE ENGLAND allowed four hits.

In softball

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 14, Ridgeview 2. JESSICA HUNTER homered, doubled twice and drove in six runs to power the host Falcons. JACKIE FREEHILL and EMILY SPANGLER each had two hits and an RBI.

Monticello 5, Clinton 3. The visiting Sages, who won the game with two runs in the eighth inning, got three hits and two RBI from ALLIE HISLOPE. SAMANTHA VALENTINE (RBI), ASHLEY GULLIFORD and MEGAN MAGSAMEN all had two hits apiece. Clinton got two hits and three RBI from JESSIE SHRIDE.

St. Joseph-Ogden 24-23, Iroquois West 0-0. ABBEY McELWEE had six hits, scored eight runs and stole six bases for the visiting Spartans in two games. MICKAELA FLEMING collected seven hits, including a home run. ELIZABETH EVERINGHAM fired a no-hitter in Game 1 to improve to 19-0, and SAMANTHA FLEMING tossed a one-hitter in the second game.

Mahomet-Seymour 13, Rantoul 4. JESSICA ROBERTS went 4 for 4 with three runs and a stolen base to power the visiting Bulldogs. VANESSA HEINOLD and AUDREY CARLSON each had three hits.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 16, Milford 3. LEEANN CONRAD (two runs), ALYSSA SAWYER, CATIE BRANDT (two runs) and LACEY KRABEL all had two hits for the visiting Buffaloes. KYLIE SCHERF had two hits and two stolen bases for the Bearcats.

Sullivan 7, Unity 6. The host Redskins, who trailed 6-0 after three innings, rallied for the win and got four hits from JESSICA ELDER, including the game-winning RBI in the eighth inning. LACY PRUITT had four hits and scored twice for the Rockets.

St. Thomas More 5, Urbana 3. Winning pitcher ALYSSA VODACEK scattered four hits in a complete-game effort.

Salt Fork 6, Seeger (Ind.) 3. KAYLEE McFADDEN (three hits) and NICOLE WESTON each drove in two runs for the host Storm. HUNTER MARSH also had three hits, and KALYN LEARNARD added two.

Westville 14, Armstrong-Potomac 2. Winning pitcher KYLIE LESKO scattered four hits and also homered for the visiting Tigers. MARY DELANY hit a home run for A-P.

Centennial 12, Danville 2. BRIANNA PERRY (two RBI) and BEKAH BAMERT (RBI) each had two hits for the Chargers, who got a game-ending RBI single from COURTNEY STAMM in the fifth inning.

Schlarman 18, Oakwood 1. BAYLI MITCHELL and ELIZABETH HAWKINS each had three hits and two RBI for the host Hilltoppers.

In girls' soccer

Central 6, MacArthur 0. Maddy Chalifoux recorded a hat trick for visiting Champaign Central, which got a goal and an assist from Hannah Hart.

Urbana 1, Eisenhower 1. MELINDA MENDOZA scored off an assist from ANWEN PARROTT for the visiting Tigers.

St. Thomas More 7, Decatur Christian 0. The visiting Sabers got a hat trick and an assist from JADE BRINKOETTER. MICHAELA WARD added a goal and an assist.

Urbana University 1, Warrensburg-Latham 0. GABRIELLE KOZLOWSKI scored off an assist from CARMEN GEWIRTH to lift the host Illineks.

In track & field

At Arcola. The Purple Riders won a five-team boys' meet and got a pair of wins from QUINTON RISLEY (shot put, discus).

South Piatt's ALYSSA HENDRIX (triple jump, 800), Cerro Gordo's KRISTI KRIGBAUM (discus, shot put) and Arcola's SAM REECE (100, 400) all won two events in the girls' meet.

At Arthur. The Lancers won a girls' quad meet thanks to a pair of wins from KARLY GOODMAN (shot put, discus). JESSICA DAVIS (100), LEAH LEYNES (200), PAIGE McDANIEL (3,200) and COURTNEY YODER (triple jump) were also winners.

Tuscola got a pair of wins (200, 400) from ALEX KEMP en route to winning a boys' triangular against the Knights and Tri-County.

At Paxton. Watseka finished second to Momence at the boys' PBL Invitational, thanks to wins from CALEB PARSONS (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and DAULTON DePATIS (long jump).
