Saturday's highlights: Stamm paces Chargers

Baseball

Unity 12, Tuscola 11. ROBBY CROUSE had a game-winning single in the bottom of the seven for the host Rockets. SPENCER SHUMAKER and CJ SHORT each went 3 for 4.

NOLAN WALSH, JIMMY KNIGHT and DILLON HOEL each had two hits for Tuscola.

Rantoul 5-6, CPCI 1-1. CHRIS DEAVILLE had two hits and three RBI for the Eagles in Game 1. LUKE PANNBACKER and TERRY DEAVILLE combined to scatter four hits. STERLING YOUNG had three hits in the loss.

In Game 2, KELLY FOSTER had a hit and RBI for Rantoul, which got solid pitching from KYLE FLESSNER and MARTY MENNENGA.

PBL 9, Iroquois West 2. JAY ESHLEMAN had two RBI and DAKOTA ZENNER had two hits for Paxton-Buckley-Loda, which scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. DUSTIN MERCER pitched a complete-game four-hitter.

SJ-O 7, Westville 3. DREW NAGY had two hits and three RBI for St. Joseph-Ogden, which got a triple and two RBI from JAKE STEWART. JONNY HOEPNER had three hits in the loss.

At Bloomington. LUCAS SPEZIA went 4 for 4 as Schlarman beat Cornerstone 6-2. ALEC NEAL and AUSTIN CALHOUN each had two hits. The Hilltoppers also lost to St. Bede 14-2.

Ridgeview 4, Lexington 3. In the consolation championship at the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament, COLE WINTERLAND's 10th-inning double was the difference.

Softball

Unity 6-0, C-W 5-10. LACY PRUITT capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Rockets in Game 1. TAYLOR STARK's home run in the seventh forced extra innings. Stark had three hits and two RBI for Unity, which got three hits — including two doubles — from McKENZIE KRUTSINGER and two hits and two RBI from SHELBY HILDRETH.

In Game 2, CARSEN BOLSTAD had two hits for the Rockets, who made four errors.

HOIC tournament. REGAN ROMSHEK had 15 strikeouts and KAITI BOWEN had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley beat Blue Ridge 4-2 in a tournament semifinal. JORDAN WHEELER homered for the Knights.

JAMISON BRANDT was 3 for 4 with two RBI and KYLEE BECK had two hits and three RBI for Blue Ridge in a 14-9 loss to Fieldcrest in the third-place game.

Centennial 14-16, Eisenhower 2-0. COURTNEY STAMM went 4 for 4 with five runs on the day for the Chargers. LEXI HALL and KATIE JANSON each had two hits in Game 2.

Donovan 8-7, Hoopeston Area 0-9. RYLEE MARTIN had 12 strikeouts in Game 2 for the Cornjerkers, who got two hits and two RBI from KARENA COLUNGA and BROOKE KINNEY.

At Rantoul. AMBER MILLER had two hits and ERIN WALKER pitched a four-hitter as Tuscola beat Rantoul 2-0 in nine innings. Miller went 3 for 4 with five RBI as Tuscola beat Schlarman 15-5. LEXI ROGERS and CARMAN COMERFORD (three RBI) each homered. Schlarman beat Rantoul 4-2 despite a home run by the Eagles' KARISTA LUTES.

Track & field

At Mahomet. CALE McCORMICK won the 800, DEREK BUNCH won the shot put and Mahomet-Seymour's 1,600-meter relay team placed first to lead the Bulldogs to the championship of their own 19-team boys' meet.

Other local winners included Judah Christian's MALIK WILLIAMS (long jump), Prairie Central's IAN BRISCOE (high jump), Prairie Central's STIRLING SOMMER (200 and 400), Monticello's STEVE SCHROEDER (1,600), Prairie Central's SKYLER SIEVING (100) and Schlarman's JESSE HAHN (3,200).

At Shelbyville. Unity's SCOTT WOODARD won the 1,600 as the Rockets finished fourth at the 23-team Shelbyville Invitational. Villa Grove's RYAN PEARCE won the shot put as the Blue Devils placed eighth.
