Monday's highlights: STM baseball advances

In baseball

Class 2A regionals

St. Thomas More 9, Westville 0. Austin Tabeling and Aaron Pinkerton combined on a four-hit shutout for the Sabers in a home win. Sean Sullivan had three hits and three RBI, while Storm Joop tripled and scored three runs.

Pontiac 6, Watseka 0. The Warriors, who trailed 2-0 entering the seventh inning, were held to three hits in a home defeat.

Oakwood 6, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5. Cody McClintock hit a walk-off home run to lift the host Comets to a win. McClintock went 2 for 3 and scored twice for Oakwood, which trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh

Class 1A regionals

Blue Ridge 3, GCMS 0. Conner Builta pitched a seven-hit shutout and struck out 12 to lead the Knights to a road win. Jake Johnson went 3 for 4 for the Falcons.

East Central 6, CPCI 2. John Essig pitched a three-hit complete game and struck out nine for the Panthers in a home victory. Essig also had two of East Central's seven hits.

Cerro Gordo 13, Arthur-Lovington 3. Cody Woollen drove in three runs and was one of five Broncos to belt two hits in a five-inning home win. Winning pitcher Joe Peter struck out 10 in four innings.

Armstrong-Potomac 2, Milford 0. Kolton Vermillion pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out 13 for the Trojans in a home win. Luke Gernand had two of A-P's five hits and drove in a run. Jake McCann went 2 for 3 for Milford.

Villa Grove 9, Arcola 2. Jake Reifsteck drove in three runs for the visiting Blue Devils to back the four-hit pitching of Austin Hubbart, who struck out 10. Jose Ramirez had two hits for the Purple Riders

Casey-Westfield 9, Tri-County 0. The Titans were held to two hits in a road loss.

Fisher 23, Buckley Christ Lutheran 0. Luke Harvey went 5 for 5 with four RBI for the Bunnies in a five-inning home win. Winning pitcher Taw Fredrickson and Harvey combined to no-hit BCL.

Schlarman 10, Judah Christian 4. Clein Gard went 2 for 3 with a triple and drove in two runs to lead the Hilltoppers to a home win.

Regular season

Iroquois West 7, LeRoy 6. Trenton Miller had four hits with four RBI and four runs to lead the Raiders to a come-from-behind home win. Iroquois West trailed 6-1 entering the fourth inning. Henry Gerritson homered and scored three runs for the Raiders.

Eisenhower 8, Urbana 4. Michael Thompson had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Tigers in a road loss.

Mahomet-Seymour 8, Normal Community 3. The Bulldogs drew 10 walks in a road win. Tyler Francisco, who had two hits, and Joe Kenney each had two RBI for M-S.

Unity 5, Champaign Central 1. Spencer Shumaker and Kyle Buhr combined to shut out the Maroons over the final six innings to lift the Rockets to a road win. Mitchel Snodgrass had two hits for Unity. Tate Long and Kurtis Brown each had two hits for Central.

Stewardson-Strasburg 9, South Piatt 5. Harlen Utterback went 2 for 3 for South Piatt in a home loss.

Prarie Central 7, St. Joseph-Ogden 6. The Hawks scored six runs in the top of the first and held off the rallying Spartans. Zach Shepherd drove in two runs for PC. Aaron Woller belted a two-run homer for SJ-O and teammate Andy Bensyl contributed three hits, including two doubles.

Charleston 5, Danville 4. Charleston scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to edge the Vikings. Chuckie Robinson, Chase Thurston and Michael Vascura had two hits apiece for Danville.

In softball

Class 2A regionals

Unity 11, Oakwood 0. Carsen Bolstad had three hits and four RBI to propel the Rockets to a five-inning home win. Winning pitcher McKenize Krutsinger, who struck out six, also drove in three runs and scored three times. Tessa England had both of the Comets' hits

Hoopeston Area 11, Milford/Cissna Park 3. Aaliyah Colunga doubled twice and drove in four runs to lead the Cornjerkers to a road win. Rylee Martin contributed four hits and two RBI for Hoopeston Area.

Westville 15, St. Thomas More 6. Ashley Hoffman went 4 four 4 with a home run and three stolen bases to lead the Tigers to a home win. Winning pitcher Carson Richardson also homered and drove in three runs for Westville.

Class 1A regionals

Villa Grove 11, Shiloh 1. Kilee Hoffman went 2 for 3 with a homer and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils in a five-inning home victory. Winning pitcher Lizzy Smith pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight.

Arthur-Lovington 8, Cerro Gordo 5. Brooke Tabb went 2 for 2 and Sherrelle Coller drove in two runs for A-L in a home win.

Armstrong-Potomac 6, Lexington 0. Morgan Zindars pitched a three-hit shutout for the host Trojans.

Regular season

Rantoul 22, Champaign Central 0. Allison Jordahl pitched a no-hitter for the Eagles in a five-inning road victory.

Mahomet-Seymour 4, Charleston 3. Alison Tarrant held Charleston to one earned run while striking out eight to lead the Bulldogs to a road win.

In track & field

Vermilion Valley Conference. Jesse Hahne of team champion Schlarman set a conference meet record in the 1,600 meters, one of four marks to fall. Hahne won the event in 4 minutes, 30.90 seconds. Other records were set by George Foehrer of Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman in the 200 (22.72), Alec Dutton of Salt Fork in the discus (158 feet, 7 inches) and the Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac 3,200 relay team of Cole Burris, Erik Tharp, Leighton Elliott and Brandon Divan (8:34.0). Salt Fork's Taylor Kirby (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Westville's Shane Overshiner (long jump, 100) were double winners.
