Tuesday's highlights: Central tops rival Centennial

Softball

In Class 1A regionals

Blue Ridge 10, Hartsburg-Emden 0. MELINDA WILSON had two hits, including a three-run home run and drove in four to lead the Knights at Heyworth. LIZ CORDES added two hits with two RBI and winning pitcher JORDAN WHEELER, who fired a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, scored two runs.

Tuscola 13, Okaw Valley 0. CARMAN COMMERFORD went 3 for 3 with a two-run double and three runs scored for the host Warriors, to back the ERIN WALKER's one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. SAMMI KOHLBECKER (two runs) and AMBER MILLER had two hits apiece.

Arcola 5, Arthur-Lovington 1. LEXI EDWARDS went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, CARA EDWARDS (RBI) and TAYLOR EDWARDS each doubled for the Purple Riders at Tuscola. LEA HALL had two hits, including a home run and two RBI.

In Class 2A regionals

Bismarck-Henning 11, Hoopeston Area 1. LEXI BALLARD had three hits and an RBI while LARISSA LAPPIN collected two hits and two RBI to lift the host Blue Devils.

Monticello 10, Warrensburg-Latham 9. The host Sages erased an 8-4 deficit with six runs in the fifth inning. ALLIE HISLOPE led the way with three hits and an RBI. SAMANTHA VALENTINE doubled twice.

Unity 19, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 3. All nine Rockets had at least one hit and scored a run, led by SHELBY HILDRETH's three hits and four RBI and two runs. TAYLOR SPIVEY (two RBI), TAYLOR STARK and MADI CLARK (two RBI) also had three hits. Winning pitcher McKENZIE KRUTSINGER homered and drove in four. BRITTANY HAY, who had two hits, homered for the Buffaloes.

Regular season

Mattoon 12, Centennial 0. The visiting Chargers committed six errors and were no-hit.

Urbana 20, Champaign Central 5. LEXI WHITE went 5 for 5 with three RBI and LaNEECA LIPSCOMB delivered four RBI to power the visiting Tigers. Urbana also got four hits from ELLEN BEVERLY.

Baseball

Champaign Central 14, Centennial 6. KURTIS BROWN doubled twice and scored three runs and ALEC ALTMYER collected four hits and scored four runs to lift the visiting Maroons.
“We struggled the past two weeks and didn’t play well yesterday so it was good to bounce back against a quality team like Centennial,” Central coach JOHN STAAB said. “It was a great crowd tonight, a good night for Champaign.”
Centennial’s DRAKE PERATT had three hits and GERED BALES had two.

Mattoon 18, Urbana 1. TANNER RUSSELL (RBI), MICHAEL THOMPSON and MYLES KELLEY all doubled for the host Tigers.

Soccer

In Class 2A regionals

Mahomet-Seymour 9, Decatur Eisenhower 0. Eight different Bulldogs scored goals, led by MORGAN PAINTNER, who scored twice. SARAH GARROW and CATHERINE McHALE each had a goal and an assist.

Tennis

At Champaign. Host Champaign Central beat Charleston 9-0 behind HWANJUN YOO, HWANJAE YOO, PAUL MITCHELL and HAYDEN DODDS who all won singles matches in straight sets.

At Metamora. AKSHAY KRISHNAMANI won in singles and the team of SUNNY SINGH and ANDREW SKAGGS won for Centennial in a 7-2 loss to Metamora.
