Villa Grove, Senior


Recently: She pitched three complete-game victories, striking out 42 batters in 20 innings while yielding 10 hits. She was 6 for 9 with three home runs and seven RBI last week. On Sunday, she won the halftime three-point contest in the second News-Gazette/Parkland All-Area basketball showcase (above).

In her own words: "It was a little overwhelming. We won three softball games and had two basketball all-star games (including one on Saturday at Martinsville between LOVC players)."

My best pitch is ... the drop ball.

I learned to shoot ... out in the yard with my grandpa and my dad when I was 2 or 3.

Next year ... hopefully playing softball in college, but I'm undecided where.

In five years ... teaching elementary school and coaching softball

My first job ... babysitting

I'm dying to see ... "42"My nickname is ... Smitty

I wear No. 13 because ... people said it was unlucky, but every I time wore it, it has been lucky.

Recently: Improved to 5-0 with a one-hit shutout against Arcola in a 10-0 win. He also hit a double and triple to keep his season average above .500.

In his own words: "Our team is playing really good right now. The defense behind me has been excellent. The first-year co-op has made it a different atmosphere."
