The Vermilion Valley Conference-leading Buffaloes (7-0 in league play) dispatched Westville, which could have pulled into a first-place tie with a win. Lexi Sliva picked up her ninth win, and Catie Brandt hammered her team-leading third home run.

The Redskins placed third in the 13-school Tuscola Open. Amanda McClain, the area leader in the 400 meters, set a meet record in the event with a 58.71-second clocking. She also helped the 800-meter relay team win. Teammate Megan Dash won the high jump.

Austin Millholland pitched a four-hitter and was backed by an errorless defense as the Tigers (7-6) stayed in contention in the VVC by handing Oakwood its first league loss. Millholland pitched eight scoreless innings in the team’s 7-2 triumph.

The Lancers (12-3) overpowered Decatur Lutheran behind a five-inning no-hitter from Kaitie Wildman, who walked no one and struck out eight. She had two hits, as did Kate Kauffman, Mallory Renfro and Ashley Tabb. Tabb also stole four bases.
