Bulldogs won the 14-school Gene Ward Invitational, in Champaign, by four points over Dunlap. The Bulldogs had the top two finishers in the long jump (Drew Sahni and Andrew Shroyer) as well as the runaway winner in the 3,200 meters, Forrest Smoes.
Comets (10-4) finished the week with three consecutive one-run victories in league play, including a nine-inning 1-0 decision against Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman. Winning pitcher Jake England fired his third shutout, striking out 16.
ST. JOSEPH-OGDEN GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Spartans won the Sangamon Valley Conference meet, for the seventh year in a row, by nearly 30 points over runner-up St. Thomas More. Loren Brooks and Tori Master each won two events. Teammate Abby Gawthorp won the 1,600 meters. The SJ-O 1,600 relay was also first.
VILLA GROVE SOFTBALL
Blue Devils (10-0) and pitcher Lizzy Smith remained unbeaten in Little Okaw Valley play, handling Martinsville and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. Only one conference team has scored more than one run against the first-place Blue Devils.
