In track & field
■ At Flossmoor. The Danville 400-meter relay team of LEXI HOSKINS, AMBROSIA WILLIAMS, EMONE DAVIS and ALEXUS JIMSON-MILLER not only advanced to the Class 3A state finals at the Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional with a second-place finish but it also set an all-time area record and school record in the event. The quartet crossed the finish line in 48.27 seconds, breaking the previous record of 48.43 set by Danville during the 2006 season.
Jimson-Miller also qualified by winning the 100-meter hurdles (14.25) and 300-meter hurdles (44.89). MERCEDES ELLIOTT placed first in the 3,200-meter run (11 minutes, 46.88 seconds) and BRITTNEY ISAAC came in second in the discus (109 feet, 61/2 inches).
■ At Princeton. Prairie Central had three individuals and one relay team make it out of the Class 2A Princeton Sectional. KASSADEE IFFT won the pole vault by clearing 9-9, and teammate SAVANNAH ROPP (8-3) placed second.
LIZ WALTER came in second in the 3,200-meter run (12:45.03) while Ropp, Ifft, GABBY WEBER and ALEXIS LAMBERT teamed up to qualify in the 400-meter relay in 50.83.
■ At Downs. Clinton had six individuals and two relay teams (400 meters and 800 meters) qualify for state at the Class 1A Tri-Valley Sectional, helping the Maroons claim the sectional title. BECCA ANDERSON qualified in two events (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash) while HANNAH SWIFT won the pole vault (11-3) and ALLY LAWSON won the triple jump (33-1).
KELSEY WALKER of LeRoy swept the 100-meter hurdles (16.12) and 300-meter hurdles (49.74). EMILY ALLHANDS of Watseka won the shot put (35-4) while teammate ALLEE BUNTING qualified in the discus (101-2).
■ At Moweaqua. AMANDA McCLAIN of Sullivan/Okaw Valley won three events at the Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Sectional. McClain placed first in the 200-meter dash (25.88), 400-meter dash (58.92) and the long jump (16-51/2).
McClain and EMILY NEUHAUSER — who qualified in the 100-meter dash (12.96) and 200-meter dash (26.26) — along with ERIKA TOMCZEWSKI and MOLLIE BOWMAN, helped the 800-meter relay team place first in 1:48.69.
TAYLOR EDWARDS of Arcola won the 800-meter run (2:23.69) and helped the Purple Riders’ 1,600-meter relay team (4:16.62) and 3,200-meter relay team (10:17.08) qualify for state. Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond had two individuals qualify in the shot put in KARLY GOODMAN (36-11/2) and EMILY KAUFFMAN (33-11) while KAYLEY STANLEY did so for the Lancers
in the 100-meter hurdles (16.37).
■ Watseka 6, Tri-Point 2. The host Warriors used a four-run second inning to take control and held the lead thanks to solid defense and a strong pitching effort by TAYLOR BAUER. Bauer struck out eight and scattered seven hits in throwing a complete game. She also added an RBI to complement superb hitting performances from COLLEEN SUCHY (double, three RBI), MARIAH CARROLL (1 for 2, three runs) and KATIE McTAGGART (double, RBI).
■ Watseka 5, Tri-Point 1. KEANON LaVOIE allowed one hit in five innings while striking out five to pick up the win for the host Warriors. He was also 1 for 3 with an RBI. BROCK MYERS was 1 for 3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
In girls’ soccer
■ Normal West 2, Mahomet-Seymour 0. KATHY BRADLEY made 14 saves for the visiting Bulldogs (12-3-3), who trailed 1-0 at halftime.
