MONTICELLO — Winning pitcher Hunter Hart struck out a career-high 16 batters, leading St. Joseph-Ogden to a 6-3 baseball victory against Argenta-Oreana in a Class 2A sectional semifinal game Thursday.
The Spartans (25-7) will play Olympia for the title at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Keegan McHood, who struck out nine, took the loss for the Bombers (19-7). Ryan Redpath had three hits in the loss.
Alton 3, Danville 2. Chuckie Robinson went 2 for 2 for the Vikings in their Class 4A regional game at Edwardsville.
Chase Thurston (5-4) struck out seven. Austin West doubled and Michael Vascura drove in a run for Danville.
Alton scored the eventual winning run on an infield single with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.
In state tennis:
Mestre, Edo on roll. Urbana University High’s Alex Mestre and Edo Roth won their first three doubles matches in the Chicago suburbs.
Mestre and Roth defeated tandems from Downers Grove South, Algonquin and Edwardsville. Champaign Central’s Michael Yoo and Gabe Mitchell lost their opening doubles match but ran off three consecutive victories. Centennial’s Peter Kim and Andrew Scaggs lost their first two doubles matches.
In singles action, Central’s Austin Aten dropped his first match to Barrington’s Varun Parekh but rallied to win his next three. Centennial’s Sunny Singh won his first two matches before losing in the third round. St. Thomas More’s Travis Tressler won his first match but then dropped two in a row. Danville’s Tyler Ellis dropped his first two matches.
