Teams of the Week: M-S girls' soccer in spotlight

The Bulldogs (1-0) opened the season scoring twice in the first four minutes (Sarah VanWingerden and Aleyna Brunner) against Lincoln at the UI Turf Fields and had six players account for the eight goals in a shutout. Tori Rolson was the M-S goalkeeper.

The Bunnies made a splash in the Top Prep Times indoor state meet at Illinois Wesleyan University. Miranda Marry (200 and 400 meters) was the only double winner in the Class 1A division, and she also added a third-place effort in the 60-meter dash.

The Sages (5-3) have won three games in a row behind three different pitchers: David Vanderkloot, Matt Crook and Daniel Caldwell. The two most recent wins were each by 10-run margins. The offense combined for 22 hits in the last two games. The defense had one error.

The Panthers (4-0) handed Milford its first loss while extending its own season-long winning streak. Pitcher Andrew Zenner blanked the Bearcats on four hits. Jonathon Walder was the winner in a one-run decision against Kankakee Bishop McNamara.
