Tuesday's prep highlights: Unity baseball improves to 9-0
■ Cerro Gordo/Bement 11, Okaw Valley 5. Connor Gross drove in three runs and pitched a complete-game six-hitter, leading host CG/B to a come-from-behind victory. Trailing 5-4, the Broncos scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take command. Steve Isbell contributed two hits and two RBI to the win.
■ Unity 12, Central A&M 0. C.J. Short went 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Rockets (9-0) in a five-inning home win. Winning pitcher Zeke Eisenmenger (four innings) and Zach Gadbury combined on a one-hitter.
■ Clifton Central 3, Cissna Park 2. Dylan Reetz went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Timberwolves in a road defeat.
■ Bloomington Central Catholic 8, Rantoul 2. Thomas Wolken went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Eagles in a home loss.
■ Westville 12, North Vermillion (Ind.) 1. Jeffery Thompson homered and drove in four runs, propelling the Tigers to a road win. Teammate Austin Milholland added three hits and two RBI, while winning pitcher Dillon Turner threw a complete-game six-hitter.
■ Watseka 4, Iroquois West 1. The Warriors scored three runs in the second inning and held off the host Raiders behind the complete-game pitching of Cody Scott. Caleb Parker homered for Watseka, while Payton Stiers doubled twice and drove in IW’s lone run.
■ Eureka 8, Prairie Central 7. The Hawks scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but their rally fell just short in the loss. Sam Schuler and Jaime Vega each had two hits and two RBI for PC.
■ Sullivan 15, Clinton 4. Alec Ballinger went 3 for 4 with four stolen bases, and Levi Nadler (double, triple) drove in three runs to power the Redskins to a six-inning road win. Nolan Hickman of Clinton went 2 for 3 with a two-run home run.
■ Argenta-Oreana 3, Tuscola 1. Gage Eller went 2 for 3 with a home run to lift the Bombers to a home victory. Winning pitcher Keegan McHood allowed four hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings.
■ Danville Schlarman 10, GCMS 8. The Hilltoppers pulled out a road win behind the hitting of Alexis Rangel (2 for 3, three RBI) and Taylor Rangel (3 for 5). Emily Elder went 2 for 4 with a triple for the Falcons.
■ Tuscola 10, Arcola 0. Erin Walker allowed one hit and struck out nine, leading the visiting Warriors to a five-inning victory. Anna Watson went 4 for 4 with two stolen bases, including a steal of home, for Tuscola.
■ Milford 13, South Newton (Ind.) 5. The Bearcats scored nine runs in the first inning and stayed in command for a home win. Winning pitcher Mindy Garrelts, who allowed two earned runs in a complete game, also had three hits and three RBI.
■ Mahomet-Seymour 10, Pontiac 8. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the fifth inning to rally to a home victory. Pontiac loaded the bases in the seventh inning with two outs before Ashley Anglin (3 for 4) made a diving catch in center field to clinch M-S’ first win of the season. Lucy Stahl drove in three runs and Hannah Fortune went 3 for 3 for the Bullodgs.
■ Watseka 10, Iroquois West 2. Devin Curry went 4 for 5 and drove in four runs to lead the Warriors to a road win.
■ Salt Fork 6, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5. The Storm rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh and held on for a win. Brittany Hay hit a three-run home run and two two bases for G-RF.
■ Westville 8, North Vermilion (Ind.) 6. The Tigers broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh and held on for the victory. Ji’Cee Lacey went 2 for 3 with a triple and scored twice for Westville.
■ Cerro Gordo/Bement 7, Okaw Valley 5. Kristi Krigbaum went 3 for 4 with a home run for the Broncos, who scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the win. Molly Lawler and Elaina Wittmer also had three hits apiece for GC/B.
■ Monticello 7, Blue Ridge 0. Chrissy Gadbury pitched a six-hit shutout and Samantha Valentine went 2 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Sages to a road victory.
■ Arthur-Lovington 7, Champaign Central 4. Maddie Omer went 3 for 3 with a RBI to lead the Knights to a win. Peyton Luesse drove in two runs for Central.
■ Bloomington Central Catholic 3, Rantoul 2. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning but couldn’t hold on in a road loss. Jordan Smith went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI for Rantoul.
In boys’ track & field:
■ At Arthur. Colton Yeakley won the shot put and discus to help Arthur Lovington/Atwood-Hammond edge Neoga by 2.5 points for the title of a three-team meet. Third-place Cerro Gordo/Bement had two double-winners: Gage Fowler (100 meters, 200) and Dave Williams (800, 1,600).
■ At Urbana. Dakota Gash swept the two hurdles races and contributed to a first-place 1,600 relay, leading Danville to the title of a three-team meet. Chris Collier (200, pole vault) and Lonnie Buggs (long jump, triple jump) were double winners for the Vikings. Tyrin White of runner-up Rantoul won the shot put and discus, while Keith Lee of third-place Urbana captured the 800 and 3,200. Rantoul’s Hunter Pender placed first in the high jump and ran on two winning relays.
■ At Monticello. The host Sages won three of four relays in scoring an 81-65 victory against St. Joseph-Ogden. Matt Justus (100, 200) and Daniel Welling (triple jump, high jump) won two individual events for Monticello.
■ At Paxton. Tyler Rubarts won the 110 and 300 hurdles to lead the host Panthers to the title of the 11-team Paxton Invitational. Nick Hess of runner-up St. Thomas More placed first in the 1,600 and 3,200. Georgetown-Ridge Farm’s Tyler Owen (triple jump, high jump), Fisher’s Josh Wallick (shot put, discus) and Cissna Park’s Devon Laubscher (200, long jump) also were double-winners.
In girls’ track & field:
■ At Monticello. Lizzie Rupkey (100, 200) and Claire Caldwell (300 hurdles, long jump) were double-winners for the Sages in an 82-58 victory against visiting St. Joseph-Ogden. The Spartans won four of the six field events: Peyton Francisco (high jump), Parker Francisco (triple jump), Hanna Atwood (pole vault) and Lindsey Kelso (discus).
■ At Arthur. Brianne Jones (800), Kate Edwards (1,600), Abby Foreman (high jump) and Karly Goodman (shot put) won events for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, which placed second in a three-team meet. Alexa Walker (100) earned a win for third-place Cerro Gordo/Bement.
■ At Paxton. Hailey Bennett won the 100 hurdles and contributed to first-place finishes in the 400 and 800 relays to lead Oakwood to the title of the 11-team Paxton Invitational. Miranda Marry captured three events for Fisher: 100, 200, and 300 hurdles. Regan Kelley (1,600, 3,200) was a double-winner for runner-up St. Thomas More.
In girls’ soccer:
■ Judah Christian 1, Danville First Baptist 0. Goalkeeper Cara Nash racked up 22 saves en rout to her second straight shutout for the Tribe, who won on Kristina Lee’s goal with three minutes left.
■ Urbana 1, Urbana Uni High 0. Alison Slaughter scored an unassisted goal in the first period, and the Tigers made it hold up for a home victory.
■ Mahomet-Seymour 6, Champaign Central 0. Natalie Fulk’s hat trick and Catherine McHale’s goal and two assists carried the Bulldogs to a road win. M-S goalkeeper Tori Rolson recorded five saves for the shutout.
In boys’ tennis:
■ Centennial 9, Normal West 0. Sunny Singh (No. 1 singles) and Will Small (No. 3 singles) did not lose a game, helping the Chargers roll to a road win.
