Teams of the Week: Centennial baseball in spotlight
The Chargers (8-5) beat Urbana 1-0 behind Jeff Lindgren’s 14-strikeout game and then put up 48 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Decatur Eisenhower. Anthony Martin and Luke Smith earned the pitching wins.
SALT FORK SOFTBALL
The state-ranked Storm (12-0) followed up a doubleheader shutout against Unity by not allowing Hoopeston Area any runs, improving to 6-0 in Vermilion Valley Conference play. Emilie McFadden and Lea Hall hammered home runs.
PRAIRIE CENTRAL GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
The Hawks won four events (one was a relay) and captured team honors in their own 10-school invitational by 45 points. Kassadee Ifft won the pole vault, Caitlyn Ifft won the 3,200 meters and Linnea Johnson won the 100 hurdles.
CERRO GORDO/BEMENT BASEBALL
The Broncos displayed their offensive prowess, scoring 11 runs against Tri-County, 12 against Arcola and 12 against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. Cole Blickensderfer picked up two of the pitching wins and hit a homer.
