Tuesday's prep highlights: Central's Chalifoux nears mark

In girls’ soccer

■ Champaign Central 2, Danville 0. The visiting Maroons got two first-half goals from Maddy Chalifoux, giving her 79 for her career, four shy of Kim Vega’s program-record 83.

■ Bloomington 2, Centennial 0. The visiting Chargers gave up a pair of second-half goals in the defeat.

■ Normal U-High 6, Urbana 1. Ellie England scored on an assist by Rebecca Hanks for the Tigers.

In baseball
■ Salt Fork 12, Bismarck-Henning 1. Winning pitcher Ross Learnard tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 in the five-inning contest. Noah Darr had two hits and Garrett McFadden homered to power the Storm’s offensive attack. Dylan Dodd hit a solo home run for Bismarck-Henning.

■ Paxton-Buckley-Loda 14, Clifton Central 3. The host Panthers, who scored six runs in the first inning, got two hits and three RBI apiece from Wil Boman and Johnny Walder. Dustin Mercer added two hits and two RBI.

■ Mattoon 10, Urbana 2. Dustin Lard (run, RBI) had two of the host Tigers’ four hits in the loss.

■ St. Thomas More 8, St. Joseph-Ogden 5. Storm Joop (three hits) hit a go-ahead two-run single to cap a five-run sixth inning to lift the visiting Sabers. Mike Plecki added two hits and an RBI. Cole Berry’s three hits paced the Spartans, who fell to 28-2.

■ Cerro Gordo/Bement 8, Tri-County 5. Jacob Weedman drove in a pair of runs for the visiting Broncos, who scored three times in the top of the seventh to win. Brandon Getche’s three hits and two RBI led the Titans.

■ Champaign Central 9, Danville 2. Alec Altmyer picked up the win, pitching five innings with 12 strikeouts to improve to 8-1. Alec Barger had two hits and drove in four for the Maroons, who also got three hits and three runs from Jake Snider.
Danville’s Austin West had two hits.

■ Sullivan 12, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 2. Nick Frerichs had two hits and drove in four runs, while Dakota Clayton went 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBI to lead host Sullivan. Jacob Piper added three hits. Tyler Schuring went 2 for 3, including a homer, and had two RBI.

In softball
■ Bismarck-Henning 15, Armstrong-Potomac 1. Brittany Ribbe led off the game with a home run as part of a two-hit, two-run day to lead the visiting Blue Devils. Phoenix LaCombe (three RBI), who also had two hits and scored twice, added a two-run homer. Laine Andrews scored four times to go with three hits and an
RBI.

■ Urbana 10, Centennial 9. Chelsea Skinner, who homered and drove in five runs, delivered a walkoff single to lift the host Tigers on Senior Day. Krista Broom added a pair of hits. Centennial’s Danielle Staske (two runs), Kaity Wyss (RBI), Aolani Sprout (two RBI) and Brianna Perry (RBI) all had two hits each.

■ St. Joseph-Ogden 8, St. Thomas More 1. Kassidy Clark, Mady Poulter (two hits) and Allison Rose (two hits) all homered to power the host Spartans. Ashlynn McConaha and Molly McElwee also had two hits each for SJ-O.

■ Clifton Central 12, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 2. Skylar Harris went 2 for 3 with a run and Kelsey Vaughn drove in a pair for the host Panthers in the loss.

■ Tuscola 2, Unity 1. The host Warriors got a go-ahead solo home run from Karli Allen in the bottom of the sixth en route to the win. Anna Watson added two hits, two stolen bases and a run. Unity’s Madison Routh went 3 for 4, and McKenzie Krutsinger added a pair of hits and an RBI.

■ Cerro Gordo/Bement 9, Shiloh 1. Kristie Krigbaum went 3 for 4 to power the host Broncos’ offensive attack. Elaina Wittner pitched a complete-game two-hitter with six strikeouts.
