Friday's prep highlights: Chargers make track history

In boys’ track and field

■ At Champaign. At the Class 2A sectional, the host Chargers captured their first sectional championship in school history, scoring 1131/2 points. Mahomet-Seymour was second.

■ At Tolono. At the Class 1A sectional, Unity won the 400-meter relay (44.20 seconds) and the 800-meter relay (1 minute, 33.51 seconds) with the unit of Jayden Kaiser, Justin Deters, Kameron Heath and Chris Branson. The Rockets placed first in the 1,600-meter relay (3:30.72) with the team of Chandler Cousins, Deters, Andrew Warnes and Ashton Montgomery. Aaron Luesse won the 110-meter hurdles (14.96) for the Rockets. Warnes finished first in the 800 (1:57.57).

Argenta-Oreana’s Quinton Crawley and Austin Wenskunas were first and second, respectively, in the triple jump (41 feet, 3 inches and 40-8). Wenskunas placed first in the long jump (21-91/2).

St. Joseph-Ogden’s Ethan Mizer and Matthew Knipfer finished first and second, respectively, in the pole vault (14-0 and 13-6). Andrew Clem placed first in the discus (133-6) for the meet-champion Spartans. Jake Behrens was second in the shot put (48-111/2).

Jon Davis, from Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac, was a double winner in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. Salt Fork’s Nick Barr won the shot put.

■ At Shelbyville. At the Class 1A sectional, Tuscola’s Stephen Gibson and Clayton Turner were second and third, respectively, in the shot put (49-10 and 48-71/2). Gibson was third in the discus (145-3). Broc Smith placed first in the 100-meter dash (10.82) and the 200-meter dash (21.92). Eric Ponder was second in the 1,600-meter run (4:31.05), and Trent Ponder was first in the 3,200-meter run (9:47.19).

Arcola won the 800-meter relay (1:31.99). The Purple Riders were second in the 400-meter (43.92) and 1,600-meter relays (3:29.18), each qualifying for state. Arcola's Clayton Strader won the 300 hurdles.

In baseball
■ LeRoy 3, Fisher 1. LeRoy’s three-run first inning was the difference in the Class 1A regional matchup. Justin Morgan had one hit and two RBI. Ricky Vermaat had one hit, one run and one RBI. Will Gollihur, Grant Pointer and Tyler Rogers had two hits apiece for the Bunnies.

■ Milford 2, Armstrong-Potomac 0. The Bearcats’ Tanner Davenport pitched a complete-game shutout in the Class 1A regional win. Davenport allowed two hits and struck out six. Ryley Ward had two hits.

■ Mahomet-Seymour 6, Mount Zion 1. Kevin Mumm had two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs. Tom Kenney had two hits, two runs and one RBI. Cully Day had one hit and one run. Day allowed four hits and struck out seven.

In softball
■ Danville 8, Central 5. The Vikings scored six runs in the first three innings. Central’s Imani Maatuka was 2 for 3 with two RBI. Reni Nugent and Becca Crisman had two hits apiece. Maddie Omer, Scoyoniah Bowdry and Alicia Bradley each had an RBI.
