Monday's prep highlights: Robinson, Maroons win close one

In baseball

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 4, Oakwood 0. Wade Edwards struck out seven in throwing a six-hit shutout and helped himself at the plate by going 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Blue Devils (16-8-1) in a Vermilion Valley Conference road win. Chase Vinson went 2 for 3 with a double for the Comets (12-11-1).

Champaign Central 3, Mattoon 2. The host Maroons received six solid innings on the mound from Cam Robinson, who didn't allow an earned run and improved to 5-0 on the season, while Caleb Pyrz threw a scoreless seventh to pick up his second save for Central (16-12).

Clinton 7, Sullivan 6. Braden Cross went 3 for 4 with four RBI to spark Clinton (8-8) in a road Central Illinois Conference win. Spencer Johnson (2 for 3, two RBI) contributed for the Redskins (7-16).

Cissna Park 22, Donovan 9. Bailey Sluis (3 for 3, three RBI) and Rudy King (3 for 6, five RBI) helped the visiting Timberwolves (12-12) in the nonconference win.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 5, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 0. The visiting Falcons took down their Ford County rival with Nathan Garard throwing a four-hit shutout. Garard added a double and two RBI for GCMS (8-13). Keyn Humes went 1 for 2 for the Panthers (17-8).

Hoopeston Area 11, Salt Fork 4. Logan Walder (two RBI) hit a home run and threw a complete game for Hoopeston Area (14-5) in a home VVC win. Dakotah Broeker drove in three runs for the Storm (16-8).

LeRoy 6, Blue Ridge 3. Caleb Poindexter had three hits and three RBI for host LeRoy (18-8) and Keegan Lyle produced three hits for the Knights (12-14).

Mahomet-Seymour 9, Prairie Central 0. Tanner Kirts only gave up one hit and struck out eight in 5 1 / 3 innings, and Kyle Mumm threw 1 2 / 3 innings of no-hit relief for M-S (10-7) in a convincing nonconference road win.

Milford 16, Armstrong-Potomac 1. The visiting Bearcats received 11 strikeouts from Alex Barney, who only yielded three hits, in a five-inning VVC win. Brady Marshino went 3 for 4 with four RBI for the Bearcats (9-10). Dalton Loschen went 2 for 3 to lead A-P (4-16).

Monticello 14, Urbana 2. The visiting Sages scored at least 10 runs for the 14th time this season, with Luke Stokowski (3 for 4, four RBI, two doubles) leading the way for Monticello (22-3) in a nonconference win. Amir Ammons had three hits to pace Urbana (5-15-1).

Rantoul 4, Lincoln 2. The visiting Eagles received superb pitching from Hayden Cargo and Chad Vermillion to secure the nonconference win. Vermillion struck out seven in relief and Cargo struck out six for Rantoul (11-8).

St. Joseph-Ogden 17, Danville 4. Crayton Burnett (five RBI), Austin Cain (four RBI) and Jesse Schlueter (three RBI) paved the way for SJ-O (19-11) in a home nonconference win against the Vikings (7-9).

St. Thomas More 9, Watseka 8. Nick Schurter (2 for 4, two RBI) and Dominic Magrini (2 for 3, two RBI) guided STM (14-6) to a home win, its eighth straight win. Henry Paviak (2 for 3, two RBI) led the Warriors (9-14).

Schlarman 6, Westville 2. Quinn Gard (2 for 4, RBI) and Austin Camareno (1 for 3, two RBI) chipped in offensively for Schlarman (4-14). Trent Maxwell and Dalton Dalbey went 2 for 3 for the Tigers (5-19 in VVC action.

Tuscola 10, Unity 3. Haden Cothron (2 for 4, three RBI) and Tyler Meinhold (2 for 4, two RBI) cleaned up at the plate for Tuscola (28-3) in a road nonconference win. Jeremy Gallivan tallied two hits for the Rockets (4-15).

In softball

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 12, Oakwood 1. Mai Lin Davis hit a grand slam for BHRA (15-6), while Kylee Watkins went 3 for 4 with a home run in a Vermilion Valley Conference win. Kelsey Blackford went 1 for 2 and scored the lone run for the Comets (11-11).

Buffalo Tri-City 4, Argenta-Oreana 3. Bailey Benton (3 for 3) and Camilyn Newbanks (2 for 3) each had multi-hit games for A-O (13-8).

Champaign Central 18, Peoria Manual 3. Kaylee Bowers went 4 for 4 to pace Central (5-13) as Katelyn Beard, Natalie Stumph and Lauryn McArthur all added two hits in a Big 12 road win.

Cumberland 13, Heritage 3. Kylie Rothermel contributed two hits for the Hawks (4-19) in a home loss.

LeRoy 13, Blue Ridge 0. Charly Warlow went 3 for 4 with three RBI for LeRoy (18-10) in a home Heart of Illinois Conference win. Natalie Tharp had two hits for the Knights (9-19).

Rantoul 11, Danville 0. Lindsay Jordahl threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 while going 3 for 3 with two RBI at the plate to lead the host Eagles (12-15) to a nonconference win.

St. Joseph-Ogden 11, Tuscola 1. Bailey Dowling (3 for 4, two RBI) and Frankie Izard (2 for 4, RBI) powered the visiting Spartans (23-3. Allison Clark (2 for 3, RBI) led the Warriors.

Salt Fork 11, Hoopeston Area 5. Linzi Fauver delivered out of the No. 9 spot, going 2 for 4 with three RBI, for the visiting Storm (20-4) in a VVC win. Ali Watson (2 for 3, two RBI) sparked the Cornjerkers (12-12).

Watseka 10, St. Thomas More 0. Magan Harris struck out 11 and threw a five-inning no-hitter, lifting the host Warriors (15-6) to a nonconference win against the Sabers (0-17). Kennedy Bauer went 2 for 2 with three RBI in Watseka's eighth straight win.

In girls' soccer

Urbana 9, Decatur MacArthur 2. The visiting Tigers (8-11) relied on three goals from America Moreno Duran in a nonconference win.

In boys' track and field

At Catlin. Salt Fork racked up 154 points to easily win the nine-team Vermilion Valley Conference meet. Max Branigin pulled off wins in the 100-meter dash (11.37 seconds) and 200 (23.39), Dawson Rogers swept the 400 (52.11) and 800 (2:06.87), Caine Wilson cleared the field in the 110 hurdles (15.56) and 300 hurdles (39.59) and Payton Taylor won both the shot put (47 feet, 6 inches) and the discus (147-6) for the Storm.

At Gibson City. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley placed third at its own six-team meet. Ryland Holt won the 200-meter dash in 24.49 seconds, Caleb Bleich placed first in the 400 (51.56) and Isaiah Chatman won the 300 hurdles (45.48) for the Falcons.

In girls' track and field

At Catlin. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin compiled 165 points to win the nine-team Vermilion Valley Conference Meet. Alexis Darby paced the Blue Devils by winning the 1,600-meter run in 6 minutes, 11.18 seconds and the 3,200 in 14:19.72 Capria Brown from Schlarman placed first in the 200 (26.39), the 400 (1:01.25) and the long jump (15 feet, 10 inches).

At Gibson City. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley placed second at its own six-team meet. Delanie Dykes won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 29.43 seconds, Gabby Dammkoehler won the 3,200 (14:19.41), Abigail Sizemore won the 300 hurdles (51.94) and Claire Retherford won the discus (106 feet, 5 inches).

In boys' tennis

At Champaign. Uni High prevailed 7-2 against Champaign Central at Lindsey Courts. Sam Li didn't drop a game at No. 2 singles for the Illineks in a 6-0, 6-0 win.. KJ Munroe and Gus Rossow won 8-4 at No. 1 singles for the Maroons.

At Champaign. St. Thomas More defeated Decatur Lutheran 7-2 at Atkins Tennis Center. Wade Baillon led the Sabers by winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

In bass fishing

At Lake Shelbyville. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond won a sectional title, with Caleb Branch and Dawson Miller topping the field by compiling 9 pounds, 4 ounces of bass. The Unity duo of Cameron Cokley and Jack Brown placed second with 6 pounds, 15 ounces and Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's tandem of Ty Coon and Clayton Hill also advanced to state by placing third.

At Clinton Lake. Cerro Gordo won a sectional title as Nathan Riley and Austin Cherry combined to catch 16 pounds, 0.63 ounces. Clinton also advanced to state as Bryce Reeves and Brett Reeves caught 7 pounds, 11.52 ounces.
