Wednesday's prep highlights: Eberle tosses gem as Falcons win

Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Regional

Monticello 14, Unity 1. The second-seeded Sages cruised to a five-inning regional semifinal victory thanks to a five-run third inning and a seven-run fourth inning. Jeffery Wileaver hit two home runs and compiled four RBI for Monticello (25-4), while Luke Stokowski (2 for 4, three RBI), Alek Bundy (3 for 4, two RBI) and Asher Bradd (2 for 4, two RBI) each got in on the offensive fun against the seventh-seeded Rockets (6-17).

Class 2A Paxton-Buckley-Loda Regional

Tri Valley 4, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 2. The ninth-seeded Falcons couldn't knock off the top seed in a regional semifinal game that was tied at 2 after four innings. Daniel Jones hit a solo home run and Tyler Walker went 2 for 2 with an RBI for GCMS (11-15).

Class 2A Tuscola Regional

Tuscola 13, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 1. The top-seeded Warriors won their regional semifinal game in five innings at Ervin Park, with Hunter Hutcherson hitting a grand slam. Brayden VonLanken added a two-run home run and Andrew Erickson contributed an RBI double for Tuscola (33-3). Marcus Vanausdoll and Waylon Schlabach each had a hit for the 10th-seeded Knights (7-11)

Oakwood 12, Casey-Westfield 2. The fourth-seeded Comets scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out a six-inning regional semifinal win at Ervin Park. Chase Vinson and Skylar Bolton both hit home runs for Oakwood (16-12-1), while Noah Ruch and Brady Howard each drove in two runs and had two hits.

Class 2A Hoopeston Area Regional

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 13, Prairie Central 3. The eighth-seeded Blue Devils left little doubt in a six-inning regional semifinal win against the second-seeded Hawks. Colten Arford (2 for 4) hit a solo home run, Noah Jordan went 2 for 5 with two RBI and Wade Edwards drove in three runs as BHRA (21-8-1) eased its way past Prairie Central (17-11), which received two RBI from Billy Printz.

Class 1A Peoria Heights Regional

LeRoy 11, Peoria Heights 3. The top-seeded Panthers (21-9) received two hits and two RBI from both Nick Perry and Will Dooley in a regional semifinal win.

Class 1A Meridian Regional

Okaw Valley 17, Tri-County 1. The seventh-seeded Titans couldn't slow down the top-seeded Timberwolves in a five-inning regional semifinal loss. Blake Lee, Jacob Neill and Cody Richardson all had hits for Tri-County (4-16).

Class 1A St. Teresa Regional

Decatur Lutheran 5, Cerro Gordo/Bement 4. The 10th-seeded Broncos nearly pulled an upset of No. 2 Decatur Lutheran, but Cerro Gordo/Bement (2-22) concluded its season with a regional semifinal loss.

Class 1A Salt Fork Regional

Salt Fork 4, Schlarman 0. The top-seeded and host Storm kept No. 8 Schlarman at bay in a regional semifinal win. Wyatt Boyer and Gage Romack combined on a three-hitter, with Boyer striking out three in six innings and Romack earning the save. Boyer, Romack and Dylan Pratt each drove in a run for Salt Fork (18-9). Daulton Stelzer, Rance Bryant and Michael Welsch each coming through with a hit for the Hilltoppers (6-16).


Paris 9, Clinton 7. The host Maroons received a solo home run from Braden Cross, along with three hits from Keaton Thayer, but Paris scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead. The late surge provided enough insurance despite Clinton (9-12) tallying three runs in the bottom fo the seventh.

Class 2A St. Joseph-Ogden Regional

St. Joseph-Ogden 12, Westville 2. The top-seeded Spartans won their regional semifinal game in convincing fashion, with Kenzie Pence collecting three hits and three stolen bases to spark SJ-O (28-3) to its 13th straight win. Frankie Izard, Bailey Dowling, Emmy Graver and Allie Place all had two hits against the eighth-seeded Tigers (14-12).

Unity 8, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 3. The third-seeded Rockets used a four-run second inning to take control in a regional semifinal win against the fifth-seeded Blue Devils. Elyce Knudsen delivered three RBI for Unity (13-17), which also received a solo home run from Morgan Steinman and two RBI from Jessie Spivey. Grace Harris, Aniston Myers and Laynee Dickison each drove in a run for BHRA (16-10).

Class 2A El Paso-Gridley Regional

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 1, Eureka 0. Makenzi Bielfeldt drove in the game's lone run and went 3 for 3 to spark the third-seeded Falcons (17-6) to a regional semifinal win. Madi Eberle was brilliant in the circle, striking out 10 and only yielding four hits in throwing a shutout.

Class 2A Praire Central Regional

Prairie Central 11, Watseka 5. The third-seeded Hawks (12-13) relied on a home run and three RBI from Lindsey Hari to post a regional semifinal win. Magan Harris drove in two runs for the fifth-seeded Warriors (18-7).

Class 1A Grant Park Regional

Grant Park 5, Schlarman 2. The fifth-seeded Hilltoppers (5-19) couldn't secure a regional semifinal win despite two hits and an RBI from Aleksas Dietzen.

Class 1A Fisher Regional

Heyworth 1, Cerro Gordo/Bement 0. The sixth-seeded Broncos (4-16) received a complete game from Kadie Daily, but CG/B only mustered one hit in a regional semifinal setback.

Class 1A Morrisonville Regional

Edinburg 11, Villa Grove 7. The top-seeded Blue Devils saw their season come to an abrupt end with a regional semifinal loss. Chelsea Harrison had three RBI and Maris Eversole produced two RBI, but Villa Grove (26-8) fell behind 6-0 after the top of the first inning and never led.

Class 1A Dwight Regional

St. Anne 12, Armstrong-Potomac 2. The sixth-seeded Trojans (4-21) couldn't pull off a win in a regional semifinal game. Destiny Fitzsimmons and Madi Gayheart each scored a run for A-P.


Mahomet-Seymour 15, Champaign Central 5. Aubrie Shore hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI while Emma Clements (2 for 4, two RBI) and Allison Nofziger (2 for 3, RBI) each contributed for the visiting Bulldogs (13-14) in a five-inning win. Kaylee Bowers went 2 for 3 with four RBI, including a three-run home run, to lead the Maroons (6-17-1).

Class 2A LaSalle-Peru Sectional

At LaSalle. Prairie Central placed fourth at the 15-team sectional, with Chandlar Ifft winning the pole vault by clearing 15 feet and Zach Matson taking home a sectional title by tossing the shot put 51-01 / 2.
