Tuesday's prep highlights: Vikings squads fall in regionals

In baseball

Class 4A Danville Regional

Moline 8, Danville 4. The eighth-seeded Vikings (10-13) pulled ahead of No. 1 Moline 4-1 through 21 / 2 innings, but they were ultimately undone by a bevy of pitching mistakes during a regional semifinal setback at Danville Stadium. The baserunners who accounted for seven of the Maroons' eight runs reached either by walk or being hit by a pitch. Logan Spicer recorded a pair of RBI triples for the Vikings and scored a run, while Andy Bunton crossed home twice.

In softball

Class 4A Normal West Regional

Pekin 7, Danville 0. A four-hit attack was all the ninth-seeded Vikings (8-17) could manage as their season ended in a regional quarterfinal against No. 8 Pekin. Lauren Cox, Jazzmyn Hicks, Kaitlyn Loewenstein and Savanna Rudy each knocked a hit for Danville.

Class 3A Mahomet-Seymour Regional

Rochester 3, Clinton 0. Despite a pair of hits from Amanda Tool, the sixth-seeded Maroons (11-19) could not string together enough offense to take out No. 1 Rochester in a regional semifinal game. Clinton had won eight of its previous 11 games, including a postseason opener against Springfield Southeast on Monday, but its offense stalled against the Rockets. Destiny Schlesinger, Savanah Clifton and Raymi Dial each potted one hit for the Maroons, who struck out 14 times and drew just one walk against Rockets hurler Reagan Miles. That blunted a strong outing from Clinton's Olivia Sanders, who fanned 12 and allowed seven hits over six innings.

Class 3A Urbana Regional

Mt. Zion 13, Urbana 3. The seventh-seeded and host Tigers (12-19) could not produce enough pop in their bats during a regional semifinal setback against No. 2 Mt. Zion, which won after six innings.
